She's such a fun ship and was completely worth it so far. This game in particular was a ton of fun to play, a shame our team lost though. And I died at the end because I lost awareness for a few seconds and couldn't avoid the first two torpedoes in the Fubuki's salvo. Well done to him/her for getting me. I'm absolutely having a blast seeing these kind of results fairly regularly in this ship(I know, 10 games isn't much, but I consider it good foresight on what it'll be like 60 or so games down the road), without premium. Especially compared to some of my Myoko games. And captaining Atago is really getting me excited for when WG puts Takao in to the tech tree. I would definitely recommend buying this ship if you've at least grinded up to/through T7, and have experience with heavy cruiser gameplay. If WoWS is anything like WoT (and I think that it is in this regard), you get more value for damaging ships that are of a higher tier than yourself, than if the ship is the same tier, or worse, of a lower tier. So I suggest looking at tier 10 battles as an opportunity to earn more credits and XP. See the silver lining, rather than the dark cloud.

Maybe it's just because I've come from playing 30k games in WoT, but I'm just not frightened of being low tier in a tier 10 battle. Oh, back before the devs shrunk the MM spread to +-2, I was in a tier 10 battle in my Colorado. And even then I didn't whine about it. The most frustrating thing wasn't that I was a tier 7 in a tier 10 battle. It wasn't frustration at thinking that I couldn't damage the tier 10's. It was that my poor Colorado was so slow compared to the tier 9 and 10 BBs that it was hard to (or at least time consuming) get my guns in the fight. And a big difference between WoT and WoWS is that even if your guns' AP rounds feel like they can't pen, HE rounds can do useful and significant damage (with the chance for fire damage which can add even more damage), even if not as potentially spectacular as AP rounds might. I wasn't too proud to HE spam a Yamato in my Colorado when I discovered that I was unable to reliably pen it. The fact was that I could get some consistent HE and fire damage, and because it was against a tier 10 ship, that damage was worth a lot more XP and credits at the end. People need to stop whining about being down 2 tiers. It's just not that bad, and it's not nearly as difficult to be down 2 tiers in WoWS as it is in WoT. Hehe, looks like some players forgot that Atago has forward facing torpedo tubes, and doesn't have to expose her broadside(too much) to launch a spread. That's with a premium account though isn't it?
