After getting Fubuki, I now understand what is so broken about Hatsuharu

Weapons

Fubuki: 3x twin 12.7cm, 3x triple torps

Hatsuharu: 2x twin 12.7cm, 1x single 12.7cm, 2x triple torps (slower, less powerful torps for a gun, or faster and stronger torps by trading the single)

 

Maneuverability

Fubuki: 35.8knt, 640m turning radius, 3.0s rudder shift w/ mod

Hatsuharu: 37.4knt, 580m turning radius, 1.8s rudder shift w/ mod

 

The major issue, as I see it, with Hatsuharu, is that she is too lightly armed for her tier. She also has a major concealment disadvantage when compared to, basically, every other IJN DD. Sure, Hatsuharu has more speed and maneuverability, but she doesn't have the weapons or concealment to capitalize on this, which makes her quite terrible at everything.

Well, she IS an IJN DD, not a supreme gunboat like a US DD.

 

Although, she is lacking in the torpedo department.

 

 

I think a better candidate for tier VII would be the Asashio-class, or at least the improved Shiratsuyu-class.

Hatsuharu ought to replace Mutsuki, Fubuki placed at tier 7, Kagero placed at tier 8, and Akatsuki placed at tier 9.  The tier 8-9-10 all with type 93s.

 

Alternatively, Swap Fubuki and Hatsuharu, and give the Hatsuharu type 93s.

Funny you should say that. Once upon a time back in alpha testing, Hatsuharu started life as tier 6. Personally I thought that was exactly the place where she comfortably belonged.

TBH the entire high-tier (6+) destroyers need to be reworked in some way, they're just not as enjoyable or as effective as they were lower down.  Yes you can get monster games, but you will consistently get better games playing the other three classes at tier 6+.

Fubuki is an amazing gunboat, IDK what you are talking about.

Stealth + 6x 12.7cm guns is amazingly effective.

 

See, the problem with Hatsuharu, is she's doesn't have the stealth of what IJN DDs ought to have. Sure, the concealment is marginally better than USN DDs, but USN DDs don't suffer from bad guns. USN DDs also feature plenty of torps they can spam at close range, where as Hatsuharu only has 2x triples. Can't torp spam torps, can't knife fight, can't do anything good.

I couldn't agree more.  It's final guns suck with bad RoF and the fact you only get two.  It's best torps have decent range (10km) but are so slow that everything can dodge them (59knts).  And you're constantly in spotting range, which with all the planes at Tier VI and above is anywhere on the entire map, then you have suicide to get close enough to fire your torps reliably in the 6-7km range.  And even then, it's no guarantee.  Which is sad because you might...MIGHT...get more than one torp salvo off in a battle before you're dead from a Cleveland or Atlanta focusing on you.  It's a great ship at taking up a valuable slot on your team and that's about it.

Agreed.  Hatsuharu is simply too lightly armed for her tier.  It pains me to point at Mahan and say "she's better", but she honestly is for the tier.  Triple quad launchers and four 5" guns... she has a lot more punch despite her higher detection range.  

 

Fubuki is so much better it's uncanny.  The extra torp launcher and gun turret give her a lot more teeth at the expense of a few knots of speed.   You miss the speed, of course, but not enough to give up all those extra weapons. =)

Akizuki is coming in a separate line.  I just think that Akatsuki is more tier-9 material than the Kagero - 9 torpedo tubes instead of 8, and the Fubuki's guns (which in-game are better than the Kagero's)

Had my first game in the Fabuki last night and even though my team managed to get themselves sunk I had a much better time then in the Hatsuhara and it was the extra guns, especially the guns that made the difference , though the extra torps were nice

Fubuki's guns are awesome.  She's the first IJN DD that I can remember taking the gun-buffing captain's skills on (after picking up Last Stand, that is).   They're well worth it.  I don't fear DD gun duels anymore, and can pen cruisers at close range with AP.
