12 GAIVS_IVLIVS_CAESAR Members 165 posts 2,202 battles Report post #1 Posted October 7, 2015 I think the most important thing about a Catapult Fighter for me is that does it spot torpedoes? I am hesitating between High Alert and Vigilance as my 2nd T3 skill for my Tirpitz, and if the fighter onboard has the ability to spot torpedoes, I will of course choose High Alert for shorter CD of my damage control. And if it does, what range does it spot torps from?

When I think of the times I've been torped, very, very few of them have been by a previously undetected ninja IJN DD. Generally I'm aware that there is a DD out there and I know the general direction and plan accordingly. And as for torps from the US DDs /RU DDs /TBs Vigilance is of no benefit as you can already see the ship firing can assume he's torping; also your reaction time will be terrible anyway with the high speed short range torps. Yes it does.. it routinely spots my DDs when I am outside of the ships actual spotting range. Unless you are talking about Torpedo's only.

Thanks for your advice but I also have some advice for you XD. I've done some research about fire mechanism and what I found that according to the math fire prevention skill is utterly useless. I will choose expert marksman for T2 skill on tirpitz, making my tactics more flexible. And for T5 I think the concealment expert skill is really good for tirpitz. I think maybe it is not "increase" but the plane itself can spot. I mean it does not increase the detect radius around your ship but instead has its own circle of detection. The plane has it's own radius and if it spots you, anyone in range spots you. So Technically it does Increase your Spotting range indirectly. I've seen the same research; the thing is that the Tirpitz main turrets already have a very high rate of traverse so (personally) I would rather take the marginal buff to fire prevention as compared to an uneeded buff to turret traverse. As far as T5 goes...I strongly disagree about concealment, simply because 1) I don't think it's all that useful and 2) there is absolutely no way it is as useful as picking up the 2 extra Rank 1 Perks and the extra Rank 3 perk.
