Well, not just night maps, which can be easily done (ideas are many on how to implement seamlessly... to those nay-sayers saying it cant be done), but more maps, high seas affecting gameplay.

By the way, here a little WW2 naval night warfare footage - Enjoy :honoring:

My immediate thought on how to do night mechanics are:

1.  Half visibility range on all ships.  25% visibility range for aircraft spotting.

2.  Double the visibility increase on gunfire.

Anything more complicated can only end in tears.

I thought WG already said graphics won't affect gameplay? So, no gameplay changes from bad weather?

You also gotta think between every tracer round there's at least gotta be 5-10 rounds in the air as well

1) I would make night battles a no CV, no aircraft zone, we are currently seeing enough matches without them so that shouldn't be a problem.

2) Ships that fire while not spotted are lit up for 20 seconds at any distance.

Why are you still here with your crusade against wargaming and all those who spend money on it? (So you could have a free to play game)

However night battles would be fun to have in game. Perhaps  give idea's how to use night battles instead of posting a pointless thread with some eye candy?

Yes I know %^$& Americans as you say most of the time.

The way I see night battles working:

First, they need to implement the option to turn off other modes the way World of Tanks allows, as not everyone will want to play something like night battles.  Night Battle would be a type of battle mode in the random rotation.

When Night Battle occurs, several effects are in place:

All ships have drastically increased concealment ratings

Carrier players in the queue are not admitted into a Night Battle

Torpedoes have much lower detection

Gunfire adds 5 kilometers of detection to the firing ship for 15 seconds

- Certain ships, particularly IJN ships, have flashless powder, and thus do not suffer from the above effect

Firing torpedoes does not affect detection range

All floatplanes are replaced with the starshell consumable

- Starshells can be fired from battleships or cruisers like regular shells, and illuminate all ships in a 3 kilometer circle around the targeted spot

Searchlight capability added, can be toggled on and off like AA

- searchlights follow the same bearing as the main turrets

- when on, searchlights reveal enemy vessels up to 6 kilometers away when aimed in their direction, but also reveal the vessel using the searchlight during the duration of the searchlight being on

- searchlights can be disabled by enemy fire

Just a rough idea.  Eventually I think they really should implement radar in the game in some fashion, and that would be in effect for Night Battle as well.

For night battles I would propose the following.

No Moon Battles

Carriers landing lights must be enabled when squads are landing and taking off this will make the carrier flat out detected unless behind cover. Having Secondaries and AA enabled will turn on searchlights and make you detected if in LOS. Aircraft spotting distance of ships will be 2.5 KM. Aircraft will have lights on wings and be detected 10KM out.

All other ships instantly detected when firing unless behind cover for 3 seconds, secondaries and AA when turned on also turn on search lights making them instantly detected but allows them to increase spotting range (of enemies) by double base spotting range 5KM (so with AA/Sedondaries on you can see unlit ships up to 10KM (including DD's and torpedos) unlit torpedo spotting range 1KM

Any ship on fire will be detected in LOS until the fire is out out.

I would really enjoy this battle as it would start out slow then be a symphony of hellfire once the first shot is taken. Would be a very visually stunning battle. Changing course and speed will be imperative for deadly torpedo attacks.

Full Moon Battle

All ship detectability and spotting ranges halved normal.

Fires make any ship detectable in LOS until out out. Firing makes any ship visible for 3 seconds in LOS.

Carriers still have landing light restriction . Plane spotting distance half normal. Turning on AA and secondary fire would make you detectable in LOS but would even allow you to see a DD up to 10km (and torpedoes). Base defectively of unlit torpedoes 2.5KM.

Real AA is just unimaginable in its intensity when you see things like this. Seems like sometimes they fire low and are chucking rounds at friendly ships too? Must be an awe-inspiring sight, I cannot imagine the noise.

Course, in reality, a group of 5 or 6 torpedo bombers can just cruise in, circle a few times, and drop a perfect coordinated spread of torpedoes 200 feet off the bow, instantly turn away and escape.....

That AA though.... good god.

Carriers should not be allowed in night battles at all.

Sadly the numbers of people who will scream bloody murder will go through the roof when they are torped by truly invisible cruisers and DD's.

Since there won't be search radar or fire control radar it would kind of be silly to even have night fights

Why shouldn't there be carriers in night battles? at about the middle of the pacific war night patrols and attacks were a thing.

Night battles sounds cool. But Warthunder has them and the end result is pretty craptastic at best. Invisible players ect. Maybe if destroyers are given a flare option to light up an area it would be interesting. Otherwise can anybody say having a DD show up at 2-3 km instead of 6-8 with a torp launch would be fun?

It was the end of the war when there were night fighters on the US carriers with radar and of course the TBM/TBF had radar.  Night attacks by carriers was extremely rare due to the difficulties of landing at night.  If you are thinking of the turkey shoot, that started in the late afternoon and the carriers and ships had to turn their lights on so the planes could find their way home.

wasn't thinking the turkey shoot, I knew they existed and I knew a few night combat events with attempted aerial strikes, even so this is a game with ships all the way to the end of the war, if night fights exist then they should be limited to tier 7 carriers and beyond.

Maybe they realized that the chinese knockoff of their game looks better, plays better, is more historically accurate, and has all the features that the players have been clamoring for that have been completely ignored, such as more maps, submarines, night battles, weather, sea states etc.

Ive already posted a lot of my ideas how it could work... running lights on ships and carriers, maybe.. lights on the planes.. ships light up when firing, because of all the firing, fires on ships will illuminate them, moon glow on the water will make ships slightly more visible, lights on villages on the islands. Torps will create a slight illumination effect in the water from stirring up algae .. the point is that its supposed to be much more difficult, some say no because its too hard, well, i dont like everything too easy, and its not a game change, its one map, would be nice to have a real challenge thrown in the mix.. plus, seeing the horizon light up from firing and tracers would be pretty cool.

What about an added consumable, flares.. you can fire off a flare in any direction that will illuminate its surroundings so you can spot and fire at the enemy...... hmmm  its an idea.

In WT night battles were AWESOME in  RB (when it wasn't called RB yet but historical battles). As usuals moaning kids who want everything easy, made WT break that awesome thing into a "meh" thing. Same as the wind, it was great in the beginning and moaners made WT remove it.

Sometimes I just think about killing people. Well, moaners are not people in the end...
