It feels like 100% of the engagements I lose in fighter vs fighter, i've never won a fighter fight against an equal tier american CV. What is even the point of sending my fighters against them if it's a lost cause? Is it like this for the whole CV line for IJN?

That's kind of silly =\ how is that even balanced.

IJN Squadrons rearm faster on average than US squadrons. But you sacrifice more air superiority for attack capability. IJN Fighters played more defensively when I tried IJN CVs. IJN TBs tend to do more on top of you having more, especially in the early tiers.

Straighten me out here plz. IJN squadrons have less planes, but there are more of them? US squadrons have more planes, but less squadrons? I may be confusing myself more. lol

See people are always saying ijn torp bombers are superior however 6x5500= 33,000 At all torps with a MUCH tighter spread while IJN 4x8500= 34,000 at max torps with an absolutely TERRIBLE spread, if you're LUCKY you can hit 2 out of 4 torps in a wave, MAYBE 3 if they angle wrong into a third. so 17,000 damage meanwhile i've watched US torps hit 4 to 5 of their torps every wave because of the spread which is MUCH better damage.

It's all how many squadrons the IJN CV has compared to the USN CV.  IJN CVs typically sport more squadrons with flights of 4 aircraft.  USN CVs typically sport less squadrons but with flights of 6 aircraft each.  If you want to play the air-to-air game as an IJN CV at Tier IV, don't.  You don't have the numbers to do it.  At Tier IV, the purpose of that IJN fighter is to pick off unescorted TB squadrons or Escorting your own bombers from fighters trying to attack them.  You will lose those fighters, but if that means your bombers have less to worry about to get a better strike in, it can be worth it.

Once you get into Tier V, the game opens up a little bit since CVs can then adopt Fighter or Strike Specs or stick to their Standard Spec.  Examine in the tech tree the different Specs for IJN & USN CVs.  When you're loading into a match you'll see what CVs you're about to face.  You can also recognize by seeing a squadron or two what kind of Spec the enemy CV is using and what they're capable of immediately.  Knowing that immediately, you can then have a clearer plan on how to deal with the enemy CV(s).

Tier VI is when IJN CV loadouts start to blossom and one glove has come off.  Tier VII and VIII, IJN CV loadouts have taken off both their gloves.
