Hey, I just started playing WOWS, and I quite like it. I am an an experienced player of WOT and some things seem to carry over (armor angling, leading targets, etc). My question is which line/nation would be best for me to learn with? In world of tanks I like In your face brawling ships but I don't know if there is an equivalent in this game.,

Go up to the Omaha, BUT STOP THERE! The Cleveland requires a ton of skill to bring out its massive potential. Then get yourself a Kongo once you are a proficient aimer.

US cruisers are dying and going further than the Omaha is a waste of time.

They aren't dying.  Just really UP from t7 up due to an Ocean of BB tears.  The game is still young.  Go further if you want but the line changes radically at T7 and had been hit hard with a nerf bat.  I would imagine it gets a slight buff soon.

USN cruisers will be power creeped to death. They have no strengths which can have a great effect on the game with the death of CVs which is in progress.

I think it used to be US cruisers, but that doesn't lead somewhere you want to be at higher tiers.  I like the suggestion of playing it up to Omaha and then picking a different line to go up.  It's tough to say Japanese BB's too, because the tier 3 isn't fun, and the Myogi is terrible stock and terribly frustrating if you have any problems aiming.

US CA's are under-performing simply because the majority of people who get to the Pensa have not learned any real skills. Until that point, the only skillset you need to be reasonably decent is the ability to aim in the general direction of the enemy and spam HE. Starting at the Pensa, you actually need (1) to know and be able to hit weak areas while (2) maintaining your awareness and (3) controlling your ship's relative angles to the highest threat enemy. The major issue is that, right now, 80% of the playerbase has difficulty doing one of these tasks at a time, much less all three at once.

OP, like has already been indicated, the US CA line thru t6 is relatively straightforward, and the IJN BB line is solid with the possible exception of the Myogi (can be challenging). In addition, if a more stealthy game appeals to you, the IJN DD line is a viable choice.

IJN Battleships have been the most fun to me. US cruisers are fun up until the Pensacola, with the New Orleans being a decent ship although it's kinda hard to be a US Cruiser in a Tirpitzez world atm.

I found playing cruisers to be best initially.

Destroyers and battleships require a fair bit of situational awareness and ability to position yourself correctly.

Play everything up to Tier IV and see what you enjoy. It won't take very long. The grind goes up exponentially after that. Once you know what you like the decision should be pretty easy.

US Cruisers. The st louis-omaha are a solid line for beginners. By the time you get to the omaha, you will have wanted to try the other lines. Do IJN DDs first as well. Get's you into the hang of how to torp.

Don't do IJN BBs first. It will make you think the game is too slow, but that's maybe skewed because I just don't like that line. Tier III-IV suck and you will hate it.

Carriers should be last.

IJN Cruisers should be later on too as you have to know how to BB, DD, and cruiser to get them down.

I would suggest a cruiser line to learn on. After you understand that and get a little better, try DD's for in-your-face action and BB's for more hard-hitting brawler action.

DD's will be more fast paced and you should start out by hunting other DD's followed by BB's. Keep your distance from cruisers. It would be advisable to avoid CV's dive bombers also.

BB's will be slower paced, but you can take hits better. You will probably take hits more often. You should be hunting other BB's and cruisers while trying to avoid DD's and CV torpedo bombers.

That's just a quick explanation and it can vary between games depending on match making and the ship's origin.

Absolutely cruisers. They teach you a lot about the game if you're paying attention.

As for which country, it doesn't matter much. Whichever one you think is cooler.

This is good advice.

I would say IJN cruisers just because they are playable in the higher tiers where US cruisers have lost their place in the meta with shell velocity nerfs and few carriers. IJN cruisers will teach you that showing your broadside =death and you get great torpedoes and guns to deal with your foes.

I would say do a BB line to Tier 4 at least as well. That way the Furutaka's slow turrets and long reload (compared to the Kuma) won't be such a shock, and you'll have had some experience with positioning your turrets before engaging.

I would say the best line to go down for a new player is the guides section of the forum.

Tedsters how to aim and higgles armor angle thread to start with.

Then read up on CV's and Destoyers to know how they work and know how to deal with them.

Spend 30min - 1 hour and learn everything you can from the forum guides/Video's.

It will go a looong way
