2,750 [FOXEH] Kitsunelegend Beta Testers 6,103 posts 1,313 battles Report post #1 Posted October 6, 2015 (edited) WARNING! MASSIVE WALL OF TEXT INCOMING! READ ON AT YOUR OWN RISK! So, after only playing 16 battles with my Derpitz, I thought I'd give a little run down on what I think of her, with maybe a little bit of back ground and a story based on one of the fairly recent matches I've had. First thing is first. A quick over view on a few points I've noticed about the Derptiz. -The first thing I've noticed about the Derpitz, is just how quick her turrets can rotate, even without the captain skill for increased turret rotating. Its nice having a BB that has that ability, especially after playing in BBs like the New York and Arkansas Beta. You're able to get your main guns on target much faster, which sometimes means the difference between life and death. I'm looking at you, you pesky DDs. -The second thing, and arguably my favorite things, is the rudder shift time. Stock time is pretty decent, but after putting the rudder upgrade on, I now have a BB that handles somewhere between a CA and BB, which for me, is a HUGE thing. I cannot tell you how many torpedoes I've dodged due to having that upgrade. Couple that with her top speed and turret rotation time, and you've got yourself and fairly quick to respond BB. -Her armor has also saved me time and time again. I have a bad habit of getting close to other ships and trying to brawl it out (and dying a fiery death), trying to slowly get into torpedo range to sink them, and every time, the Derpitz has saved my lousy butt from an early trip to Davy Jones locker lol All of this seems to combine into a ship that, even when having a really really bad day, having made so many mistakes and errors that have gotten myself sunk, the Derpitz seems to not be effected by that. Take today for example. I was having one of "those" days. Every battle I kept getting sent back to port fairly early. Not because of any fail teams or over powered ships on the enemy team, but pretty much because I just was failing so hard at things I normal don't have too many issues with. I was making bad calls, my shots weren't on target, my timing was terrible and so was my angling, and this carried on to just about every ship I have in port.... My Murmansk was the worst. In the one battle I had with her today, I only shot down 3 planes and hit a DD a handful of times and was sunk by an enemy CV because I wasn't paying attention as much as I should have. Near the end, with all of my other ships already played and having gotten all of the daily bonuses except my Derpitz, I was about to call it quits because I didn't want the trend to continue and risk losing credits with her, should I get sunk and sent back to port really early. However, I decided to hell with it, I may as well try, and loaded up a few signal flags and pulled in the anchor and sailed out to sea. I also made sure to load up on extra life rafts and life jackets, just in case lol The following story was taken from the journal of a very tired and grumpy looking battleship captain. You've been warned... Spoiler Who also tried to bite us for suggesting to try and get some sleep. Obviously, a severe lack of coffee is to blame for such rood behavior. >_> Feel free to read on and enjoy the rambling story of an eternally tired kitsune. Seriously, where the frick is my coffee!? [EDIT] Edited some minor spelling and grammar mistakes in the story. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I found myself in the North, feeling the chill in the air and knowing that the enemy was close by. I ordered my gun crews to load the main battery with armor piecing rounds, and ordered the torpedoes loaded, hoping that maybe we would get a chance to use them before being sent to the locker... Our first enemy we spotted was a American Cleveland class cruiser about 18km out on our starboard side, I ordered the two front turrets to train on her and gave the order to fire. A giant blast followed by a fire ball, bloomed before my eyes as all four barrels spewed forth their armor piercing rounds and launched them high into the air, heading straight for the that damned yankee ship. I watched with slightly bated breath as the rounds came down onto the ships bow section and took out one of the AA guns and causing what seemed to be a decent amount of damage. I was pleased, and ordered my helmsman to change course by 10 degrees to port, sailing around a small group of islands and heading directly north. At about 1 minute or so after firing those first shots, we received reports of enemy vessels sighted about 20 km to the east, as our ships in the area were under moderate fire and would need some back up. I order the helmsman to shift the rudder to full starboard and head north-east, sailing up and around a small island, intending to flank the enemy ships from behind. However, the moment we rounded the southern tip of the island, we came upon three enemy ships! A battleship and two cruisers were sailing straight for us! I looked in my binoculars and saw to my dismay they had all guns pointed right at my beautiful ship. I then noticed something dreadful....one of the ships, a yankee cruiser at 7km distance and closing quickly, had torpedo launchers on her side sides, no doubt primed and loaded with the things that instilled pure fear into my crew.... I quickly ordered hard to starboard and had all four main turrets swung around to the port side and trained their aim on that one ship, ready to blow it out of the water before it ended us. Barrels swung around, aim was lined up, I heard the confirmation for a firing solution and wasted no time in giving the order to fire all guns! Red hot metal poured out of all the guns my ship had to bear, flying the distance quickly and striking the ship with only two rounds going slightly wide and splashing into the water.... To my dismay however....the ship was still afloat and heading straight for us still. I set my face in stone, knowing that this could be the end as I waiting for the main guns to finish loading. The American cruiser started to show her full broadside to us, possibly getting ready to send death our way... However, the yankee ship had made a fatal error in closing the distance to us...we were a battleship yes, but were a battleship unlike others... we had a surprise in store that no cruiser would see coming... I ordered the torpedo launchers to launch a tight spread at the enemy cruiser, hoping to at least wound the beast and give us time to retreat away from her own torpedo spread that she no doubt had launched... I watched as four torpedoes splashed into the water and headed for the unsuspecting yankee vessel that was now only 3km away, and watched in glee as the sailors on board saw the fate they now faced, the captain ordering the ship hard to port to attempt to dodge the death we had sent them. We never got to see what type of damage our torpedoes could do however, as out of nowhere, artillery rained down from behind us and struck the panicked ship and detonated her main magazine and fuel stores, sending a thick cloud of smoke and flames into the sky. My crew shouted with cries of joy as we looked south and saw two battleships, two IJN battleships that had become our saviors. Oh what a beautiful sight to see they were... I signaled to them to form up at my rear as our ships swung north again, getting ready to take on what laid before us with new found hope. Our job however, was not over by a long shot. We still had two other warships to deal with. I ordered the guns aimed to the battleship, signalling one of the IJN battleships to keep the enemy cruiser at bay, this one thankfully not having any torpedo launchers that I could see. The guns were aimed, the order was given, and a wave of blazing fire was released upon the yankee battleship, hitting mid-ship and causing quite a bit of damage. Large chunks of steel flew into the air and the ship shuddered under the impact sending a visible shock wave into the water around her, the impact no doubt causing a tremendous blow to critical areas of the ship. This would be tough fight, but one that I had confidence in winning.... Later... Battered, bruised and burned, myself and the two IJN warships sailed away from two slowly sinking American wrecks, happy to have sunken the battleship with the IJN warships devastating the cruiser. We set our heading for our original objective, the one I had set out to do, thinking it would be the last thing I do in this ship... Sinking the enemy aircraft carrier. We had gotten word from our fleet to the east that they had held back the enemy and had managed break through their line, and told us to continue on and to meet up with them after finding and sinking the creator of the devils that had been harassing our main fleet... Up until now, those horrid buzzing devils in the sky had ignored us in favor of our fleet to the east, sending waves of hell to our friends. Now though, they turned their sights on us... anti-aircraft crews manned their posts and trained their weapons towards the sky, their blood most likely running cold as we could all see the dots of those dreaded death bringers heading our way. Wave after wave of them came at us, dropping their payloads and setting the deck ablaze as our AA filled the sky with fire and smoke, tracers lighting up the evening sky. Fire crews were hard at work, trying to contain the blazes that those bombs had set, working hard to keep this ship from slipping beneath the waves or being burned to the keel... I put the repair crew on stand-by as I watched yet another wave of dive bombers come in, with a second right behind it and heading towards the two IJN ships sailing 4 km or so behind us, all the while the AA was filling the sky with hot lead, thankfully bringing down some of those flying devils. About 3 long minutes into this onslaught, our spotter radioed to us that they had spotted the enemy carrier. At last! We can bring this horrid battle to a close and claim victory! The vessel was to our port, so I ordered all guns trained onto her and the torpedo tubes armed and at the ready, closing the distance and setting my focus on the task at hand... 12km....10km....8km....at 8km I ordered the first shots to be fired. Only the two front turrets fired, which sent the blazing hot rounds towards the enemy carrier, all four shots managing to impact just forward of mid-ship and do a massive amount of damage. She started listing slightly to the port side, presenting her flight deck to us as the rear turrets lined up and were given the order to fire. One shot sailed clear over the deck, splashing harmlessly on the other side of her, another shot going wide and striking the very tip of her bow severing her anchor chain and sending shrapnel into the air, but otherwise doing no damage. The final two shots landed low and just behind her anchor, setting the poor girl on fire and sending a thick black smoke into the air, preventing anymore flights from filling the sky as the fire quickly spread to her forward flight deck... 5km. I ordered all four torpedo tubes fired, watching the splashes as they hit the water and headed straight for the now doomed allied carrier. I watched in glee as three of the four torpedoes struck the carrier's port at almost 90 degrees broadside, causing her to list heavily to port, several aircraft that were sitting on her flight deck sliding off and into the water. I watched in pure joy as the sky devil spewing demon from the west slowly rolled over to her side and started slipping beneath the waves, debris and scrap floating to the surface, along with oil and fuel that was now spreading across the water like the blood of a slain foe and forever staining seas and marking the spot of a great battle... The day had been won...we had taken a beating, but we had prevailed into victory and could now head home with smiles on our faces and songs in out hearts, and as heroes. Even though captains before me had failed, I knew I would not be doing the same as them so long as I had the mighty Tirpitz and her valiant crew along side me... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you managed to actually read through all that, than dude, wth kind of time do you have!? Get the frick into battle and sink some ships! But anyway, yeah, just thought I would make an attempt at writing a little "journal" type thing and tie it into my quick review on the mighty fighting Derpitz. Hope you enjoyed the read anyway. I cant really recall exactly what I have, but I do know I have the rudder upgrade and main battery health and accuracy, but I do not have anything in the last slot as both of the ones in there I feel are far too pricey for what you get. I also cant recall what I have for my captain, other than the tier one survival.
