Typically WG gives a starter ship with a slot, from what I remember.

You can buy them for 300 doubloons in the lower right corner.

That is how it has worked in WoT. When new nations were introduced you got a new tier 1 tank with a garage slot. I'd assume that will be the case in WoWS, but this is the first time it has happened here.

It stands to reason that you will have to receive at least one new port slot. After all you will be receiving a new tier 1 ship.

So basically if you have ZERO interest in the Russian DD line...flip the tier 1 and get a port slow.

Or vice versa if you wanna do the DD's but not the German CA's.

Sadly the German cruisers are looking very weak, excited about Stronk Russian Ships though. As others said you'll get a free tier one/port slot of each new nation.

1 for each tier 1 if WoT is anything to go by.

Technically, that is not entirely true (regarding the "first time it has happened here" comment).  The USN and IJN lines were, at one point, "new nations" and we got a Tier 1 ship and slot when they were introduced.  It just also happens to be that they were the first nations in the game.  :teethhappy:

Seriously, though, this is standard operating procedure for WG.  When a new nation is introduced, they always give you a Tier 1 and slot so that you can start the line.  If you go up the line, then you are going to need more slots, so giving away the first one makes good business sense.

So you can pretty much count on a Tier 1 German ship + a slot when the German line is added.  Count on a Tier 1 Russian ship + slot when the Russian line is added.  Count on a Tier 1 British ship + slot when the British line is added, and so on.

Well, since the tier 1 ship is free - you basically get a free port slot and can buy the Russian dd whenever or if ever you decide.

Then again, I could just imagine them making it so you have to train on a US tier 1 before starting at tier 2 on the Russian line.  You know .. like an allied joint training program?  hehe :hiding:

They announced the Tier 1 Russian cruiser 'Orlan' along with the destroyer line.

First DD is always tier 2. They are giving us ten Russian/Soviet ships to play, one for each tier. Eventually, we'll get.the other nine cruisers.

The Tier 1 American ship is a Cruiser, the Erie.  The Tier 1 Japanese ship is a Cruiser, the Hashidate.  The Destroyer lines branch off of the Tier 1 ship, so the first Destroyers are Tier 2s.  You can expect the same to be true of the remaining nations.  Thus, it makes sense that they will likely always have to introduce a Tier 1 Cruiser when they add a new line regardless of which branch they decide to tackle first.

I'm not sure about that. The Tirpitz was talked about the same way, but the thing that made it work was the armor layout, which doesn't jump out at you in the port stats.

The RU DDs are going to get balanced one way or another so what we see now will not make it to release. I might try the German Cruisers.

not what I'm seeing

Yup. They are looking mostly competitive with some real choices needing to be made at higher tiers for how you kit it out. It will also cause uncertainty early game because people will not know what upgrades are fitted. That should be good for dynamic gameplay.

German Cruisers def dont look weak to me. The higher tiers especially, they could be excellent AA boats or holy crap at the range gun boats.

I watched Braincage play them for quite a while they have some excellent range and shell velocity but their HE damage is terrible compared to IJN and U.S.   They seem to be more fragile than the IJN counterparts the only thing that might make them amazing is figuring out an optimum plunging fire  range for AP spam and whether they will be able to penetrate deck armor of cruisers and BB's to utilize their decent AP damage.  With the sniping meta at the higher tiers they may have a role to fill AA escort with dps capability, but the Zao and seems to be superior in every way except AA.
