buy your new ship select it, then go up to the assign commander spot and then click assign commander from another ship

this is the way to do it, the captain is gathering more XP/skills as you get into higher tiered ships where the advantages of these skills will be a good thing.

just dot forget to re-train!

so does he keep all his points or the perks he has been thought already or does he lose everything?

everything is kept, but for them to continue earning XP they need to be retrained to the new ship.

the only time you wont need to retrain is when moving a captain to a premium ship.

Never train a captain to a premium ship, if you have one.  To use a premium ship just temporarily assign a captain from one of that country's regular ships.  That way your captains will get experience faster.

I've always wondered precisely how this works as I cannot find very specific documentation.

So If I put my Colorado captain into my Arkansas each day he would gain more captain xp than a match in my Colorado? Or are you saying just to switch a different captain to the premium ship for play times and in the premium ship just not have one that stays in it?

Premium ships don't generally train faster than line ships, they just offer the opportunity to move a captain in/out with no cost penalty. The rate of training is completely a function of how well you are playing in any ship.

However, for players who need to grind creds, being able to do so while still improving the captain for the ship you are supporting is the main benefit. This is the reason mid-tier prem ships are so popular; t4-6 is the sweet zone for cred grinding, and having a prem ship you can move a captain to is nice.

U can retrain for 200,000. But the captain takes a % hit in skills till u finish the retraining. But u can use premium ships to help with the retraining. Or pay gold and capt stays at 100% active skills.

I usually buy a new ship without a Capt. (there is a drop down for this when buying a new ship)  Then on the captain box click assign from other ship.  I always do the credit option, that way I only take a 50% hit to skills while retraining.  Sell the old ship unless keeping.

You should only need 1 captain per ship type (unless keeping a ship).  Just keep the one from the lowest tier and move him up.  Otherwise it would take you forever to get all the captain points if you kept getting a new captain with every ship.

If you're keeping a ship, move the captain up and train a new one for your "keeper" ship. It's easier to train a captain with fewer skills in a lower tier ship.

I only reuse a captain when I replace ships. Before I sell the old ship (to reuse the slot), I will send the captain to the reserve, sell the ship and any adds, buy the new ship, assign the old captain to it and start his retraining. Then use the daily bonus to get his retraining done as quickly as possible.
