I know I haven't been using the CVs for a bit but it wasn't like this when I last used my hiryu why am I suddenly getting my rear reamed hard by american CVs all of a sudden, was there a nerf or buff I missed, a skill I overlooked perhaps?

They changed the loadouts around so you have 2 fighters. This, in turn, caused a lot of people to be angry with IJN CVs and just stopped using them. They also balanced the MM out so each team has the same number of same tier CVs, which for you means the ranger.

If you run the 2/2/2 you will control the Ranger unless he has the 2 fighter loadout... at that point you just need to try to tie up his fighters to get your TBs by, or, try to isolate one squad if possible with your two.

Even if you ran the 3 fighter Hiyu setup you're likely losing AS battles to the two Ranger fighters anyways.

My problem with IJN CV is at higher levels but that's been discussed at length elsewhere.

4.1 had 2 major changes for CVs:

1.  MM - Your CV will always have an opposing CV to face off with, if not a 2 vs 2 CV engagement.  Gone are the days of a Fighter Spec going into a MM match with no enemy CVs.  Gone are the days of a Strike Spec getting a match with no enemy CVs.  This changes things drastically.

2.  IJN intermediate tiered CV loadout alterations.  Mid tiered IJN CVs no longer have the 3 TB loadouts.  Zuiho, Ryujo at Strike Spec at least have 1 Fighter Squadron.  Shokaku & Hiryu have 2 at Strike Spec while 3 at Fighter Spec.  Ryujo also has 3 fighters at Fighter Spec.  USN CVs have been untouched.

1 minor change is that WG altered fighter effectiveness so that a higher tiered CV's fighters can no longer easily wipe the floor of a lower tiered CV's fighters.  In the upper tiers though, if MM bumps down a Tier X CV against your Tier VIII... It's not going to be pretty for the Tier VIII regardless of the changes.

Some really disastrous changes coming up in 5.1

Pros:

+ USN-like straight line torpedo paths

+ double the travel distance

Cons:

- ~20% Slower torpedo speed

- underwater crit chance more than halved

- +0.5sec arming time

- the commit distance extended by a huge amount (i.e. the point-of-no-return where they commit to the approach and drop animation)

Meanwhile, no changes to USN carriers whatsoever. Midway still effortlessly deletes whatever it chooses. T9/T10 IJN CVs become even less competitive against their counterpart, but they do make good coral reef foundations and razor blades.

As a Taiho captain, I'm pretty miffed about the changes. IJN carriers most certainly did not need to be gimped any further.

The commit distance change was reverted on test this morning.

The rest... well, seems like the rest is here to stay.  I can't say I'm a big fan of the slower torpedoes.

The USN needs better strike packages, give them that and the fighter loadout problem hopefully vanishes. I am an IJN player, but I realize the problem with the fighter load outs is because WG pigonholed them into having crap strike load outs while their fighter load outs are able to compleatly stomp an ijn cv.

tricky to do that without gimping the ijn counterpart.

As it stands wg methods of balancing gimps one line in favor of the other.... Thus creating more imbalances

I wish they revert back to the old system at least it was a crap shoot for CV players, Figher loads vs strike loads. CV vs CV or CV vs BB.  I miss those days:honoring:.  I am finding it hard to play IJN CV's atm with the current state of things

IJN air superiority is currently a waste of time if you get into a match with a lower tier-ed CV.  He will absolutely destroy your fighters.

Its not just that if your in a teir 6 jap carrier there is no way you can do anything besides get your planes murdered by the teir 6 American carrier and he can attack you with basic impunity now that is wrong both the American and Japanese carriers need to be rebalanced
