Match Speed Option?

Match Speed option to other ships

  1. 1. Make a button option to target on a friendly ship to match speed with them until otherwise clicked off like setting a planned course?

    • Yes, make this addition.

So we've kicked this idea around as a player base for some time, I think its a good idea personally. Not all ships have the same 1/4 1/2 3/4 and full speeds, so matching speed instead of having to feather back and fourth to stay along side a friendly ship would be a handy quality of life improvement. This makes escorting ships or staying with your own team easier instead of rushing ahead getting strung out and obliterated one at a time because you outpaced everyone else on your team.

This would be a great option, especially when CW comes to the game.

I know that waving the flag of "IN IRL THIS HAPPENS" is basically dumb, because game, but 2 things.

1. Warships have varying speeds when given an order like Half Ahead, or Flank Speed, but usually there would be some sort of "standard bell" where all the ships would go at a sort of optimal cruise speed in optimal conditions.

2. Every ship in this game is a steam powered ship, most are geared steam turbine driven, a few are steam turbines with direct drive, a few more are reciprocating steam driven, and with German ships coming, some will start to be diesel (eventually). On all of these ships, if a set engine order isn't acceptable, you can "go between bells" to achieve the desired speed.

Can we have this please?

Match speed? I don't think it should be done. If you wanna match speed, then attempt it yourself as would be in reality. Stop trying to make so much stuff automatic and easy.

Matching speed on a real life ship is a hell of a lot easier than it is in game. Real ships can steam at more than 4 speeds. We routinely adjust our speed by 1/10th of an RPM to achieve the exact desired speed on the ships where I sail as a deck officer.
