If theres one thing ive noticed, its that US Cruisers are worse than their Japanese counterparts, but usually thats because they have much better AA. Yet your not rewarded for shooting down planes. So what is the point?

Now picture being a US carrier with the "flavor" of "shoots down planes."

Probably for the same reason torps can be dropped on an island right next to you, in a distance shorter than your ship length and hit you, and you won't find a CV driver that will admit it.

well here's sorta a point.. it would be unfair to make you get credits for something that you cant control or have a real influence over.

Well, when you send up your fighter or activate the  ummm, forget whats its called.. the thing where i activates aggression towards shooting down planes... whatever...  you do control that

you get a shiny achievement for killing 30 of them.  Usually CV get them since they are the most optimal class/target for shooting down planes.

Because WG is silly and it takes them an age to actually figure out what they are going to do with their games and then another half an age to fix what they add.

Each plane is worth 2.5% of the xp killing their carrier would earn. Maybe not.great, but neither is it "not rewarded."

If that is true, I want fire damage to give terrible reward. It's stupid OP, and virtually skill free. Fire damage takes 2 skills only.

1. Pressing the fire button

2. Being able to land a shell anywhere on any target.

Playing a fighter carrier is a lot more involved than that, and hell even driving a USN cruiser as a purposeful AA Escort is more difficult than it is to just shoot [explative] until it burns a lot.

you do get xp and credits for killing planes

Technically, you DO get XP & Credits for doing such but you are poorly rewarded.  Your most half-assed ship damage based game will always be superior to even a 60+ aircraft kill game.  This is an Open Beta Test era screenshot but nothing has been changed even with the recent, major patches / going live in terms of rewards.

My game was very mediocre in my New Mexico that match yet I received above and beyond rewards than the airpower crushing effort of our Lexington.  I still vividly remember that the only reason I was able to do that mediocre game was that the Lexington player contested the skies over me because both CVs were doing their damn best to sink me since I was the one leading the push.  They and gunfire got me in the end but they bled their squadrons doing so due to the Lexington.

the two enemy carriers in that game were lower tier than the one that shot them down though, so by shooting down 66 planes, you gotta figure say, for the sake of simplicity it was 33% each. That means he got exp equivalent for a t8 damaging by 75% a t6 and a t7 enemy ship.

If you shoot down 40 of the CVs planes you get as much XP as if you had killed him.

http://blog.worldofw....ru/economics/

Destruction of enemy aircraft: any downed enemy aircraft brings reward. If you are very, very rough count, the  40 downed aircraft, launched from an aircraft carrier a certain level, the reward for the destruction of the ship are about the same level, inflicting 100% damage.  And, of course, there are amusing nuances:

  • Aircraft must be shot down in the air. If you destroy an aircraft carrier, rewards for destroying his aircraft hangar no.
  • In the current version of the economic model has meaning only the level of the ship, which was launched from the aircraft. Type (torpedo bomber, fighter, fighter catapult, catapult spotter) does not matter.

Edit. Looks like they got rid of the blog post.   Let me find another source

If WG gave surface ships adequate rewards for shooting down planes, then Cruiser players would actually have a reason to escort BBs and CVs instead of being glorified flamethrowers.

Why can't (shouldn't?) the rewards be calculated differently for different ship classes? If the programming is "too hard", I know some interns who could probably finish it bug-free in a few days.

I agree. Just yesterday I was hugging an large, tall island on my port beam (less than half a ship length) and I was torpedoed from square off my port beam.  Somehow the planes can ignore the landmass and the torps appeared to be launched from the beach.  Dive bombing torpedo planes? Attacks like this are getting old and save the wasd advice please.

Thus why I went strike on my bouge.  Even if I face a fighter bouge if I drop one enemy ship and get all my planes waxed?  Ive still contributed more to the battle and more to my own exp and credits than playing fighter whack a mole.

This is actually a large problem with this game, ship classes are not properly rewarded for playing as a team. Cruisers and CVs get abysmal rewards for hunting planes, and the gameplay itself really isn't anything special. DDs get no spotting damage reward and barely anything for capping bases, which is sad. BB's are rewarded, but only because their main goal is just damage to enemy ships and that's basically the only thing that's rewarded well in this game. It comes down to you either choose between getting shafted in gameplay but win the game, or you get out there and get those damage numbers while sacrificing the team.

I shot down 7 planes on a defeat (did 0 damage, wooo slow bb out of place), got 1 assisted base capture, and got 350xp in a Colorado (with premium)...
