Seeing Ships at Night

Really stupid question:  How do you see where the enemy ships are?  I get only the marker for the ship.  I can't actually see the ship to tell its direction of travel.  Help!  Thanks.

There is no night bro.

I'm guessing you have an intel GPU not a gaming one.  If so you need to shut off post processing in game options completely.

Come to the light.

What I'm going to assume here is you're running into the maximum detection range on your ship.  WG games and visibility can be wonky in general, but if you are seeing the icon for a ship on your minimap but don't see it rendered in the main game area it is likely it is a target that has been observed by allied forces that is outside of your own personal detection range.  A cheap way to tell this is the icon will look slightly grayed out (for lack of a better term).

You may also notice on the minimap that the white cone that represents camera view tends to always stop at a certain range away from your ship's marker.  That is your maximum detection range on that ship (each ship can be different if I remember, there is a skill to increase it as well).

You will never have a ship render up if it is beyond your detection range.  This isn't really an issue typically as to my knowledge no ship has a gun that shoots beyond it's detection range, otherwise the ships just wouldn't render at maximum ranges stealth or no.

The key is to pay attention to the icons on the minimap for ships that are out of detection range, they will give you at least a rough idea for a ship's heading and such.

Well maybe I misunderstood what he was talking about lol.  I assumed he was talking about mini-map icons out of maximum detection range.

Maybe this is correct, I'm now a bit confused as to what the OP's issue actually is.

I have seen many dozens of people talk about night missions or a black map, and it's almost always if not always, an Intel GPU and post processing as a culprit.

If he had a black screen and some serious psychedelic kaleidoscope tracer action going on he would need to stop forcing AA in his CCC settings.  If an ATI card.

To clarify:  I am not talking about the map or minimap.  My main view is total darkness except for the five sided icons that represent other ships (mine and enemy) which have the ship's range and its health bar under it.  Is this normal, or do I have a bug?  I am not trying to shoot or see beyond the range of my ship (I can only get the icon if the range is <= 12 Km.)  I don't get the range or health bar if it's behind a mountain.

Thanks,

I don't know how to do that.  Can you show me the light, please Mokskie?  I need to be enlightened.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!  (I'm not trying to yell at you.)

Hehe start your client and in port click options via escape button.  On the first tab in lower right I believe is a box drop down for "Post Processing"  verify this is OFF, please.

While your at it you should prolly shut off shadows and reflections.  But this doesn't cause the bug.

Oh and hit full screen top center kinda, then select your displays native aspect and resolution before clicking "Apply"
