Anyone else notice that there are auto-repair costs on battles in which you take zero damage?   Is this proper?

Yes its meant to be like that. The " repair " you get is for ammo/consumables etc.

The snarky comments about why things cost the way they do are funny, but not at all the reason why things are the way they are.

The #1 reason for this is that if there were not any money sinks, then this becomes world of Tier-10 Warships, and Tier-9 and down are just grind to endgame, to the point you will be yelled at with descriptive swear words in many languages about how you are bringing down the whole team by bringing a Tier-9 into a game.

Also, the lower tiers would only be played by people grinding, or the fringe players, being basically ghost towns and very, very poor playing experience.

So, the upper tiers are designed quite deliberately to be money sinks.  This keeps players in the mid teirs playing their favorites so that they can occasionally drag out their upper tier ships and play them at a loss, in particular without a premium account.  It is a business first and foremost, so money has to be made or the game is shut down.

It's probably also the reason most Premium Ships are at the 4-8 ranges.

And with how most MM Bracketing works you're normally top tier for the matches. Which in theory means easier time earning credits.

Ammo and Consumables have their own heading under Credits and XP.  This is repair.

While it makes sense in some cases, the fact that it increases seemingly exponentially from what I've seen starting at tier 7 is more than a little rediculous. The term fun tax seems to come to mind when looking ahead to what I have to deal with if I ever decide to go past tier 6 in the long term.

I'd be fine with that.  Fill the empty spots with bots.

I play lower tier battles because they are fun, not to grind anything. Also, as a warm-up if I haven't played in a while. Does that make me a fringe player (whatever that is).

Soon  You shall be charged a Port Fee.  For every ship you have docked you must pay for the Harbor master and support crew salary.

actually its a credit sink

Wargaming is to lazy to balance out rewards/damage to account for the fact that Carriers can do a crapton of damage without dying, while destroyers barely do anything.

Instead of changing how much credits each class earns, WG implemented a base repair fee (which is also an extra credit sink, where there really didn't need to be one) so that carriers wouldn't blaze up to T10 and stay there forever, since they do tons of damage while rarely dying, while destroyers are still slogging through T6. Now, the carriers are only pushing through T8 while destroyers are slogging through T6.

You have to pay the crew too. Rum Rations are not cheap...

I know right? I had to spend all of yesterday writing letters to my dead crew's families. Good thing USN ships have lifeboats strapped to them everywhere, or else I'd still be writing them now.

I am sure you are playing as a carrier. I would like to see an increase in costs for planes destroyed.

All repair fees are a fun tax. The point is to either make you spend money or make you play lower tiers to populate lower tiers.

When "lower tier ships being fun" should be enough to populate lower tiers.

This business model comes off as punishing the players for playing the game. Anyone with half a brain can identify this and it's a cash grab so shallow even Hashidate is running aground.

Repair fees across the board need to be reduced or, ideally, removed entirely. They do not help WG's F2P model when Premium time, premium ships, and "pay to expedite" advancement mechanisms are already in place and more than effective in their other titles as well as other F2P games.
