Fix 'Glitch' Now Please

Okay, It's not a glitch, but it certainly should be.  I recently got taken out by a Japanese DD firing repeated torpedo spreads....while remaining completely invisible -  at noon on a clear day with perfect visibility!!

I know it's a game mechanic, but this is absurd.  Pop out from smoke and get me, good for you, hide behind an island and ambush, great job.  Kill me on the open seas with cloudless skies and 20 mile visibility....NO.  I realize you're still working out sighting mechanics, but, AS A RULE, DDs should not be able to launch torps from beyond visual detection range without modifiers (smoke, darkness, etc.)   This is a OUTSTANDING game - I'm fully hooked, but you need to address this 'glitch' asap.

Thanks!

Change course and speed every so often to avoid stealth torps. They launch them from far away and take forever to reach someone, so if you turn or change speed you can dodge the entire salvo.

^^This^^

There isn't a glitch, once you've been spotted you should expect to take fire. And there is simply no reason to run a straight course. Even a slight deviation will cause torps launched from a distance to miss you.

Then how do you propose those DDs get buffed in return since the only way they can survive is not be seen?

Still trying to figure out how a BB CAN'T see a DD, since historically they had earlier access to radar, higher masts, superior optics, etc....If my BB can see to shoot a target 24 km away, how can I NOT see a target 6 km away?  On a flat calm sea, you can see some objects that far away with the old Mark 1 eyeball....Let alone something tearing along at almost 40 kmh. the wake would be visible forever...

I get it.  So, don't fix the fact that he can see you but remains invisible at a distance a TOURIST could spot him.  Instead, maneuver at random against a target you don't know exists.   Hmmmm, thanks, but not a good solution...

Weather effects.  Smoke.   Darkness.  RAIN....  Cooperation with other ships.  Use of terrain.   Group tactics (this is the BIG one - DDs should only consider attacking a BB as Divisions.  As singles, they are simply targets - or should be)

In short there are numerous REALISTIC ways to make DDs work.  Making them invisible at 6km is not one of them.

That is actually very good advice. BBs sailing in straight lines are easy prey for DDs and IJN cruisers. Jingles has made the a reoccurring joke now in his recent vids

Torps?   Just zig zag... if they're that far out it takes a long time for the torps to arrive.    Where destroyers are deadly is if they get in on the side of your battleship away from your guns, they can run you in circles trying to get your guns pointed.

The annoying one is the American destroyer Sims which seems to be able to fire shells and not getting detected with no smoke or island.

THIS IS NOT A SIMULATOR. ITS ARCADE.

no argument with the word historical will be taken seriously.

Play some DD then get back to us on how to augment their survivability after you take away their stealth.  Even the current level of stealth isn't that great of a help as, in tier V, I have games where I have around 1 torp hit while firing torps just beyond visual range for most of the game.  DD is a class that is all but completely reliant on stealth, engagement conditions... and the ineptitude of players of the enemy team.  WASD will all but prevent long-range torpedo attacks from being successful.  Anything closer in will break stealth and pretty much result in the death of the DD in pretty short order.

This isn't history.  It's a video game.  If it was history, cruisers and destroyers wouldn't be able to touch battleships, and CVs would wipe the BBs out while being so far away from the BBs that they wouldn't be able to be reached in any match.

It's all about balance.

I'm a Battleship captain and even I agree 100% that Destroyers need this advantage. You'll ever hear me say otherwise. When the Battleships secondaries alone can cause fires, knocked out modules and a slew of other problems for destroyers that if they got caught out in the open with no cover or saving grace, imagine what a 14" round would do to them.

In fact you don't have to imagine, you just need to have good aim and hit a destroyer with a single Battleship HE round to witness it.

The real problem here is that your destroyers weren't scouting for you or else your cruisers weren't screening for destroyers for you as they should have been and instead they left the largest, slowest ship in the game to its own devices and you paid the price for it.

If you get hit by an invisible destroyer that torpedoes you while out of view range, it's unfortunately a team work problem. Not a mechanic issue.

Not a simulator that is how. DDs need the stealth in order to survive and sink ships, without it they would get sunk before they could do anything.

You do know it exists, it shows you at the top if there are enemy DDs still alive or not. If there isn't then you don't have to maneuver, if there is then maneuver. Also pay attention to your mini map to see if you can see a DD that someone has spotted. If all the DDs are spotted and not near you then you don't have to maneuver.

People would take threads like this more seriously if you had actually played the DD class at some point in your illustrious 196 game career (100 PvP, 96 PvE).

Try it before you knock it is all any of us ask.

Go learn to play a DD, and then come back here and tell us that there is something broken with DD's that needs to be fixed to make it easier for BB's......

You can take away the DD detection range at the same time you take away the forever spotted torps with triangles above them.  Oh and the visual warnings and the voice that tells you which direction they are coming.

Oh I forgot, when planes can't spot torpedo's for ships anymore as well

Yeah but I think the voice needs to be louder... and with more urgency to the tone.  Actually why not just have the ship auto-turn... because it's not like the crew would just let it sail right into torps.

Torps to Port, turning to avoid!

Sounds like a perfect fix
