You know that one ship that is basically a floating stick of butter, waiting to be cut by the smallest knife. According to the wiki recently, it's supposed to have decent armour now?

From what I recall awhile ago the armour scheme was around ~120mm  for all parameters. Can anyone confirm this change?

I remember reading literally days ago that the Izumo's armor was at most 152mm.

Izumo's always been heavily armored.

People like to sit broadside, and blame the armor when they get citadel'd. It's my experience (granted, from CBT and not the current environment) that Izumo's capable of tanking two or three battleships for several minutes.

That may be the case now, but there was definitely a point in time where it was cardboard box for armor.

I got my Yamato only a couple of days ago. When i got the Izumo the first thing i did was to spend all the free XP i had saved up to get the first hull (I had heard rumours that the "B" hull also upgrades your AP Shells).
At first, with a nearly stock Izumo, i got the feeling that the ship performed rather poorly.
After a bunch of battles i tried to "tank" with it.

-  My idea of tanking is to locate the enemy fleet, point my bow towards it and head straight for it. Then slow down to half speed at about 12km distance.

And what i realised by doing so was this;

The Izumo has quite reasonable armor when angled properly. It's main guns are accurate, have good penetration and packs a punch. It also seems to have a pretty good Torpedo belt and the rudder shift time isn't bad either.

That said, the Izumo needs cruiser support at all times. The terrible AA combined with the size of the ship makes you a great target for CV's and destroyers.

With all this in mind my best advice for playing the Izumo is to find 2 friends, one in a cruiser and one in a Carrier and then do a division. The CV can help keep the skies above you clear of enemy Bombers and if they do manage to slip past your CV you will still have a Cruiser Escort who can lay out some defensive AA fire for you. At the same time the cruiser can screen you from the enemy DD's as well. And when the DD is spotted once, your CV send in a fighter squadron to light up the DD for your cruiser so he can take care of it.

i cant agree with you more. i love my Izumo during CBT, and angling with the enemy fleet makes this BB a deadly one, but i do wish thee AAA rating was better and that it would have been a nice addition to have better AAA at T9.

I don't know what the actual numbers are for the Izumo, but I know that they'e not relevant.  The deck is so fat that it's very vulnerable to plunging fire, and it's clusters of AA and secondaries are a treasure trove of HE damage just waiting to be had.  It's a fat target that can't weave between torpedoes as well as others, and even dive bombers can't help but set 2-3 fires because, again, it's deck is faaaat.

So yeah, the Izumo's armor is adequate when angled against a single battleship at moderate range, but I wouldn't call it a well-protected ship by any means.  Want a good chance for 10-15k damage at the start of a match?  Put up a spotting plane and aim for the deck of that enemy Izumo.
