I've only played one battle so far with my Furrytaco and it didn't go too well, but I was liking the ship before the patch and it's just gotten better after the patch. :D

Pity I free xp'd the lower hulls on the Furutaka to expedite my grind. They announced the buff right when I get my Aoba.

I like it lots.  I can finally spin 180 and track my targets at the same time.  The reduced cooldown also helps.

Big improvement from the 4.0 version but still feels a bit under powered to the Omaha. Wish they would add the twin turret version for the last hull.

I had 3 good games with her.

I am loving the buffs. Had not been playing it for the past couple of weeks just because it was so had to do well. First game, two ships sunk. Upgraded the torps... it is NOT a DD!

 

But thanks Wargaming; this buff is appreciated.

It's a lot better than it used to be. WG really made a good decision here. Hopefully they fix the Izumo next.

I'm digging my teeth into Furutaka. Any suggestions on captain skills? I already have Expert Loader and Expert Marksman, which I guess are no-brainer for this kind of ship and guns, but what next? At 3-cost skills I presume that Vigilance is not necessary now due to rudder shift time decrease in 0.4.1, but probably still better then High Alert. At 4-cost skills Demolition Expert is not so hot neither cause Furutaka is rather supposed to use AP for citadels and not HE spam, so I'm leaning towards Last Stand. Or maybe get Incoming Fire Alert for long range duels, instead. 

 

All advices would be appreciated, thanks.

I played a game an hour ago where I basically fell into an enemy trap.  First I see a destroyer.  I shoot at it, it runs away.  15 seconds later, I see an Omaha.  I'm about to shoot at it when I realize that I'm being fired at from another direction.  Turns out that a Kuma, the Omaha, a battleship, and 1 destroyer have appeared from out of nowhere.  Unfortunately, I'm surrounded by islands, so I have no choice but to run straight and turn as soon as possible.

 

I turned too soon and ran aground.

 

In the end, I managed to survive with 1/5th health left when the 2 fires finally burnt out.

 

I credit this to 4 things...

the Furutaka's durability.  

The enemy shooting HE.  

A friendly Taco and Omaha arriving a couple seconds later.  

And those citadels on the Omaha and Kuma that forced them to play cautiously.  One shot each, 5 citadels between the two of them.

 

This patch made the Furutaka really fun to play.

Considering you'll be using this captain for the Aoba, tier 4 skill should be Advanced Firing Training.  Even if you're sporting 200mm main guns, That extra 1km on the 5km AA does wonders for your aircraft kills.  For Tier 3, I went with Vigilance because I tend to get into knife fights with destroyers (can't hit them past 7km).  High Alert is good too, considering torpedoes generally cause flooding and a multitude of players are Pyros.  Nine seconds less can mean saving umm...4k hp.
