Hello,

As stated. I really enjoy the game. It is well done and provides good tactical battles when you get the right team. I have never posted on these forums before, and I just wanted to stop in to voice my concerns.

I have read over the forums before and seen these same concerns voiced and shot down by the community. In short. I have recently stopped logging into the game. The reason? Credit income (specifically BB's). Impossible to sustain at higher tiers. I have just recently got to T8 with a BB. I have read all of the posts that credits are easy to come by and what not. This is just simply not the case.

I have had a premium subscription for the majority of my play time. Credit income in the lower tiers is fine. No issue. Higher tiers is a much different story. Without premium, You need to have a very good game just to make a decent share of credits and by decent I mean 50K-100K - Keep in mind this is after the repair bill (even if your ship is not touched) there is a repair bill for some reason? With premium, you can do the math for the relevant bonus in credit gain. Problem is, Even with premium and having a majority of decent or good games. It is still lacking.  This is not bringing into account the occasional bad games where you can lose 50K-100K credits.

I have put my time in, my money in. Not shy to spend money on games I enjoy. I have spend a good amount on this one. My real issue is the greed. It is an obvious $$ sink for players at higher tiers. You are almost required to continually buy doubloons to turn into credits if you want to keep progressing.

This is the reason I have not logged on. Not because I mind spending the money. It is because I feel that I am being taken advantage of and will not continue to support a company that works like this. Regardless of how much I enjoy the game itself.

This post was not written out of anger or trying to bash the game or the company. It honestly is just something I was thinking about and will, in the long term, cripple the games player base. If someone like me, who does not care about the money spent, as long as I feel it is fair and I am getting a rewarding experience is willing to walk away. I am sure there are many more who won't even get to the point that I am at before they call it quits.

Thanks for reading,

Though not really a solution, I'd recommend buying a mid-tier premium ship, they're good money-makers and it's a one-time purchase. (IMO, the Murmansk for $14.79 is pretty good).

Once again, this is still a money sink, but this way, it's only once you have to spend money.

Welcome to the forums! I like how you didn't make it a rant or whine thread.

If you need an insane money maker, buy a Murmansk, Atago, or Tirpitz(when it comes out).

I do own a Murmansk, It is very good at making money, and fun to play! I feel like I am playing this a lot of the time just to nullify BB losses =)

If you do, there should be no need for doubloon purchases. One good game in a Murmansk can make a lot of credits.

Converting doubloons period is a huge waste.

you will need mid tier boats to feed your higher tiers same as in tanks. if you sold boats like the wyoming, new york and kongo. buy them back they make good credits

High tiers are unprofitable on purpose. There are two reasons for this:

1) To promote middle tier play. These tiers are usually very profitable for most players, and by promoting players keeping a few 'moneymaker' ships around, WG is ensuring population throughout the middle tiers, something that is 100% necessary for the game to remain healthy. No population = endless queues = more people leaving = no game.

2) To promote people paying money for gold, premium ships and premium account. The sale of gold and premium ships and account is WG's main source of income. They're a for-profit company that needs to make money, and as such they want to sell product. No gold / premium sales = no income = WG bankrupt = no game.

In short, keep a few mid tier ships around for moneymaking and think about investing in a premium account which provides 50% additional gross income, which leads to far higher profit margins since repairs and service costs remain the same. Premium ships make more money than regular tech tree ships of the same tier, and have additional benefits as well.

Get a few good tier 5-6 ships to earn credits easy. Cleveland is a good ship if you're doing lots of damage often.

I found that my personal solution is to not try too many lines. I have chose to highlight a primary line and a couple more just for a flavor change here and there and spend most my time on that one line. I find that doing that earns enough credits for itself and upgrades and has more then enough to buy the next ship. Sometimes even without selling the previous. When you have too many lines going you will purge credits I have found. When I am really hard up, I will run my premiums a match or two to get over a hurdle .

This also helps. Being at tier 9 in one line, tier 7 in two others and tier 5 in a third means that I'm usually good with credits. Having a tier 8 premie and premium account also helps. This past weekend I made 8 million credits just grinding my New York and chasing letters.

... Chasing letters?

Yes! For the free premium ship.

The game is not meant to be sustainable at tier 8+ unless you are the top 5%.  Basically you have to play a bunch of games in mid tiers to support yourself or get REALLY good.

I appreciate the responses from everyone. I suppose I did not look at the mid-tier population side of it. It makes sense. I will give them a little bit more play time and see how it turns out. Thanks! =)

isn't this exactly as it should be and exactly like WOT? You can play for free pretty easily through T7 in WOT with a couple good cred-generating T5s you run a lot. Same is true here, no? The company does need to make money with the game which it does by gradually encouraging you to pop for premium and/or premium ships when you start to hit that wall, and that wall comes at T7/8. I don't see or have any issues with this. I do think that premium ships need a slight cred earning boost, particularly since you can't apply XP earned to Capt training like you can in WOT with premiums. And I do think that the higher tier ships modules and base costs are simply too high.

Why do players expect it to get easier at the higher tiers? I remember this complaint all through WoT. Where do players get an idea like that? What games out there get easier the farther you progress?

IJN CA's, IJN BB's, USN CA's and USN BB's for me so far. Tier 9, 7, 7 and 5 respectively.

Only at 5s for BBs and 6s for CAs.  You have a tad more time to play than me.

I'd be willing to bet that accelerated captain training will be in game before the official release. Still in a soft beta after all.

@OP: never ever ever ever convert gold/dubloons for credits. One T5 game will get you 250k. That's equivalent to 167 gold you could have saved.

I never expected anything to be easier. It is really not a question of ease. If a player with limited play time works his way down 1 line and ends up on a tier 7/8 they simply can not sustain a credit surplus. Unless they are amazing captains. =)

Too many simply sell the previous ship and only keep one thinking that is all they need. Then they get a surprise at higher tiers.

Exactly, Perhaps a write up by WG explaining why the middle tier ships are still relevant and useful would go a long way in helping break the new players in.

You'd think they would do that. But alas they do not.

I have to admit, I came in expecting a torp or cv complaint.  OP's post was a bit of a shock.

I'm on the fence with the economy myself.  Paying for some of the modules by themselves has been giving my sticker shock, but i usually don't have to wait long to get an upgrade or buy a ship I want.
