I have read the skill points and other capt. forums I can find. Here is my question. I am working on filling out the points on a captain and decide to move him to a better ship.. So even after the retraining or basic training does all the skills he learned disappear and start fresh? Hope not.. what a waste of time if so.. and kinda dumb to just suddenly forget everything just because of a ship move.. reason I ask is it seems to be the case.. maybe I see it wrong..

When you move a captain from one ship to another, you'll be given the warning that he needs retraining. Basically, once you accepted, you'll have to push the button 'Start retraining' right under the captain's name, in the skill tech tree of said captain. Once you pushed that, you'll have the options of where you want his retraining to start at. After you selected any of those, the captain will still have his skills, but they will only work at 50% of their capacity. It is important to note, however, that if it's a skill like the one that gives you an extra consumeables, or that isn't a bonus that adds a numerical bonus anywhere on your ship, the skill will simply not work at all until retraining is complete. The retraining will only need a certain amounth of XP to be completed, and once completed, all your skills come back at 100% capacity. Be aware however that the more your captain is skilled, the more time it will take to retrain him.

Does this same formula apply to premium ship captains that get moved to another non-premium ship? And last, can a ship captain from (for example) a cruiser be transferred to (for example) a destroyer without additional penalty? I am assuming transfers only work from one specific ship type to another of the same type. Is this correct?

I don't have any premium ship, so that i unfortunately can't tell you. However, i do know that there's no additional penality if your captain change from one ship class to another. For example, i used to early-train my CV captain in the first cruisers and battleship line, so that my captain would be not so bad once in the CV, of course, at the price of having to re-train my captain.

For premium ships:

You can add a Ship Commander from any other ship to the premium ship without the need for retraining.  They must be the same nationality.  i.e. USN can only be used on USN ships. or IJN Commanders can only be used on IJN ships.

You cannot add a dedicated premium ship commander to another ship and bypass the need for retraining.

So if you have a USN Omaha Ship Commander.  You can add him to Premium USN ship to help level him up.  That commander will still be an Omaha ship commander.

Re-distributing stats works the same on both Premium and non premium.
