Torpedo fire controls

Hi all,

I was playing the other day and got killed by a torpedo.  The spread was unusual.  I slowed and turned into the spread but there was a single torpedo ahead of the others that killed me.   I asked in chat and the ship (Omaha I think) said that there was an <alt> control for torpedoes that let you fire them individually.   I can't find it.   Does it exist or was he trolling me?

Haven't tried it but had seen this reference that indicates use of Alt key for single torpedo launch.
