1) my god repairs are getting ****ing expensive. 150k for taking half damage! And 235k for being destroyed!! I started with 200k credits, and I'm lucky I was able to afford the destruction, I'm down to 20k credits. (only played two games so far)

2) I hope MM isn't going to take a dump on the Essex like it did on the Lexington for me. First game: loss. Second game: draw. I really hope I can get at least 50% win rate this time. I was stuck with around 40% on the Lexington (whereas I had 60% on all of the previous CVs).

3) captain retraining is going to SUCK. The second game I died because two enemy DDs snuck around my team and must've been right on the border's edge. From BOTH sides. Oh what I would do just to make my Situation Awareness skill work! I need over 40k xp.....

Tier 9/10 isn't supposed to be profitable. Those tiers are designed to make you lose money.

And.... third battle. Hot Spot. Of course, my *favorite* map. Enemy Essex wipes me clean after he kills my team's Shokaku. Now I am short 60k credits to repair after another loss. This is definitely like the Lexington is repeating itself again. From one piece of crap to another piece of crap. Time to be a noob and spam HE from my Cleveland (and AP where appropriate). God, that crap is boring though.

Really so i just ground my way to tier IX for no reason.  How are we supposed to upgrade our tier IX?  How bout not making any money at tier X and not having a repair bill.  At least that would allow us to play our Tier X.  Ive never played a game where you were punished for reaching the max level....

To play end tiers regularly you either need to be above average or expect you are going to have to supplement your hi tier play with a few creed grinders here and there. Win and contribute in the top 5 and you will never run out of credits.

Problem is that it seems like MM is taking a dump on me again. No matter how good I was, my Lexington often got put on teams that dropped like flies. I REALLY hope that the Essex doesn't get the same fate. Because this time it's going to be a MUCH longer grind.

You have 3 battles in a t10 CV, and didn't do any better than 42k damage in any of them. Its not the ship, its not MM, its the driver.

It's part of WG's business model and it works. Play more tier 6-8 battles.

Then how did I do so good up through the Ranger? So it's clearly not me. It's MM taking a dump on me.

This is true for sure in the WoWP game. Beginning around tier 8 and building to a crescendo in tier 10, you begin to lose money/credits, UNLESS, you have a super duper spectacular performance and it's on your daily double or something like that.

It's designed so the players earn credits in the tiers below 8, and more or less pay to play in tiers 8, 9, and 10. With great performances, you can break even, but not net credits.

Nah now im just hiding once i get my hits in, DDs can do that.  Crappy game play angers alot of people but its better then having to pay.

It took a dump on you for 100 games in the Lex? You did better in the Ranger than the Lexington.

It is? I'd rather play lower tiers and enjoy myself....

The best advice for players interested in moving up the tech tree is patience.

The biggest problem is many players are able to grind to end tiers just thru sheer persistence and volume of play, and do not develop the necessary skills to be successful there. Making creds is all about doing damage at a level proportional to the tier you are playing in. If you are doing well, cred-wise, by doing 40k damage at t6, then you will need to average close to double that at t10. If you are not capable of averaging that 80k damage at t10, then you can expect to need an occasional lower tier game to make up the difference.

If you want to play t10, learn how to play well against the better players in the game.

If you are so worried about taking damage in higher tiers that you need to hide, you are not ready to play higher tiers.

I absolutely love the format.  We need a system where we can make the game fun for both casual and competitive gamers.  Buy increasing the costs of repairs, it creates a level structure where casual players hang out at the lower tiers with other casual players and competitive ones are a hanging out at the higher tiers and most often will be up against and joined up with like-minded / skilled players.

Both play styles are equally valid and respectable.  But they absolutely positively do not get along.  There is a major conflict between to the two groups and they need to be separated for both sides to increase their level of enjoyment.

You get a huge problem when you put the more iconic ships at the high tiers though. I play BB to get the Iowa, hopefully. I play CV to get the Midway. I would never want to be stuck playing with 'lesser' ships.

Basically, WG wants to force you to either: A. Buy premium time, B. Buy a premium ship, or C. Both, when you hit the higher tiers. It's the exact same way in WoT.

I'd recommend keeping lower tier ships to use for making credits; it's what I've done.

to be effective with the essex you need to 1) get the attack fighter survivability upgrade module (+15% costs around 1 or 2 mil if i remember right).  2) get the strike loadout... forget going air superiority... japanese fighters at t9 and t10 are superior to usn fighters, and you get a 2nd tb squadron at t9 in strike loadout.  3) upgrade your planes... until you upgrade your planes, you're flying lexington planes, and we all know t8 planes lack the survivability to face off against t8 AA, let alone t9 or t10 AA and finally, and most important... 4) hope you have a decent team... at t9 most players know what they're doing, and if you're team isn't able to thin out the enemy cruiser blobs, or at the very least cause it to separate, your planes will die awful fiery deaths like planes do on the russian servers.

I'm at the Lexington right now, and let me tell you, it's really hard. I did pretty well with Ranger, but for whatever reason Lexington gets less reserve bombers and it's planes seem to drop out of the sky all the time.

SO frustrating! I was hoping Essex would be better :(

You only did well in the Ranger because you were clubbing baby seals.

As a (T7) ranger you likely weren't matched into T8/9/10 games all too much. You crossed the Lexington and now are on the Essex where the game has changed. The players aren't interested in eating your torpedoes and can sniff out a green CV captain who is used to having his way. There are techniques you take in high-tier gameplay to still deal damage. If you know about them, you don't spend a whole lot of time in the AA batteries of CA's or BB's and in a single fluid motion you manually drop 2km off of their bow and they can't stop you.

Sometimes due to a ball of death you cannot manually drop torpedoes point-blank. You need to learn how to drop them at max-range so you can force movement and the death-ball to split.
