Can someone explain that base capture statistic?

I was looking at my stats with the Mighty Colorado today.

 

Overall Results

Battles    176
Base capture    262

I know perfectly well I never captured 262 bases in 176 games, probably no more than ten times was I able to reach cap in that 18 knot BB i was driving, let alone complete capping. What does that mean?

Its the number of capture points, not the amount of captures.  For exampe, if you are the only one capturing a base, and you complete the capture, you get credited for 100 capture points.
