Do I have to research all modules of South Carolina?

Looking at the modules of the South Carolina, I assume I have to research the FCS to be able to research the Wyoming, since the arrows point through it.

 

Am I correct or can this module be skipped? I know it's worth researching, but I thought I'd ask anyway.

You have to research it.

Yes, you do have to research the FCS to unlock the Wyoming. On the flip side, you don't have to research the propulsion.

Yep, you have to research the FCS upgrade to get the Wyoming

You don't have to research it directly. With enough xp, you can research the Wyoming while researching the FCS in the process.

Thanks for the clarification, guys. I'll research it now, as it will help with the grind. I just thought I might be able to get through the SC quickly enough that it wouldn't really matter.

you don't need to research all the stuff but if you wish to get the next ship you can just research the line the goes to that ship, if that makes sense. but not everything is required to be researched but if and when you do, you get elite status which is similar to premium for your ship, elite basic says you got all upgrades nothing more but your research goes to free exp. It is kind of nice.
