Balancing each ship type is always going to be a tall order.

In World of Warships, there are four ship classes you can play over ten tiers. I give WG a lot of kudos for being able to balance such different kinds of ships. How do you give a Destroyer parity with a Cruiser, Battleship or Carrier? All these ships have widely different weapons systems, displacement, and roles. They have to have a unique enough role to be worth taking, yet still comparable to a completely different ship.

Issues with Carriers, HE shells, and the roles of Destroyers at higher tiers all derive from the fact that it is really hard to balance four different ship types from each other. It was hard to do in World of Tanks and the devs spent years tweaking it; World of Warships seems like an even taller order.

Well, it's not a science. It's not a scale where they simply have to put the weights on correctly. It's completely subjective, it's completely arbitrary, and it's completely dependent on how the playerbase is playing the game.

Balance is a neverending thing, and stressing about it is pointless, as it's out of the player's control and will change anyway.

People get so worked up.

Not only balancing of ship classes, but the individual ships to make sure they are not OP in their tier or to lower tier but also making it so they can fight up a couple tiers without getting crushed.  It's a difficult balancing act for sure.  On top of that you have skills, upgrades, equipment and consumables that all change things.  You have to make sure that some combo of those items doesn't make a ship that seemed ok suddenly get out of control.

It's also why things tend to get nerfed instead of buffed.  If 1 ship stands out in 1 particular way, it's easier to adjust that 1 ship down to the norm than buff all other ships to match that ship.  You can't just buff other ships at that tier, because they interact with other tiers, then they all have to be adjusted and buffed accordingly, etc.
