Hangars. Good idea or just silly?

I'm not sure what to think exactly but the mechanic behind hangars seems kinda broken. I mean, when I fire torps on my DD my torp tubes don't take permanent damage, same for main guns on BBs... If they did it would mean that after 3 or 4 salvos on higher tier opponents I would lose the ability to launch torps or fire my main guns for the rest of the game. It makes no sense.

 

Break my squad with AA, fighters... Fine! But taking away my ability to launch squadrons turns my boat into a cruise ship. W-A-S-D.... four very exciting buttons! Or exit to port.

Except that gun turrets and torpedo launchers can be destroyed... are you really asking for unlimited or invulnerable planes?

Unlike other ships in the game, the Carrier is the only ship that can stay hidden in the back while in no danger itself, while being able to destroy any ship on the map. If carriers were given unlimited planes, then why would there be any point in playing any other ship?

Not sure how much you actually know about ships, but Battleships can carry a lot of shells, because they're fairly small... 

Aircraft on the other hand, are fairly bit, even when disassembled. Plus, you also have to carry parts, ammo, bombs, etc for said planes...

 

And, on a more realistic note, Carriers  never had unlimited planes. They carried a few squadrons, and that's it. If all their planes got shot down, they were SOL until they got more planes. 

 

In the sense of the game, limited aircraft per carrier means that Carrier players have to be careful and tactical about where they send their planes, otherwise they remove their ability to engage enemies.

If you had unlimited aircraft, then CVs would be broken as hell. Having no fear of losing aircraft, a CV could just keep throwing more and more and more bombers into the meat grinder, with no concern of loses.

 

You just need to be careful with how you deploy your squadrons. Give bombers fighter escorts, stay clear of AA heavy areas, and don't fly too deep into enemy waters. Think of it like a RTS game when your sailing a CV.

Unlimited aircraft in a CV...please no, I like playing CVs but with unlimited planes there is no more fun and ruins the strategic element cause u would be able to loose what u want...with no consequences and CVs would be more OP than it is in some situations already. Other ships would be less and less. Creditfarming would be way to easy. Further I don´t need to say that CVs never got unlimited Aircraft.

Time is what limits you from sending unlimited amounts of squadrons. For exemple, with a setup of 1-1-1 the Independence can only have 1 squadron of TBs in the air at any given time. Let's say mm hates you and puts you against 6 Clevelands and some T7 cruisers and a Ranger for extra AA fun. You send your planes but they get destroyed. It happens sometimes. You did no damage and lost half of your TBs. You need to relaunch planes, fly them to your target and try another attack that can or not end with the same result. Games last 20 mins, would still only get a limited amount of tries without the hangar mechanic.

 

Never said planes should be invulnerable. Sure, stick 2 cruisers with a BB and screw my attack, wreck my planes. Makes perfect sense. Reward defensive strategy, good.

 

The problem I have now is that it encourages "deserting". Deserting, for those who did not play WoT, is considered a bad thing, people rage over this. When your boat is out of planes (TBs especially) you basically make no more XP so why stay ingame when the goal of the game is grinding? As long as they don't give players penalty for deserting it doesn't really matter except it pisses people off (your teammates).

 

4.1 brings a lot of new changes to CVs. So I guess we'll see where WG is going with this soon enough.

To the OP, I'm in agreement with those asserting that unlimited planes for CVs in this game would be unbalanced and unrealistic. I know WG is sacrificing some realism in this game for balance, but giving CVs unlimited aircraft would be stupid. CV players would just keep zerging their aircraft unto the enemy without thought of loss.

That's why if a CV goes against a higher tier CV, the higher tier typically wins... Example...I went up against a ranger in my independence and in another match went up against a lexington (it was terrible MM). 

 

In both cases the enemy player simply THREW his fighters at me as fast as he can. He didn't really care if he lost any because it was a war of attrition. 

 

However I've also been on the other side of the fence and have also THROWN my fighters at someone because I had more reserves pure and simple. 

 

Point in case is that if I had unlimited planes and I only had to worry about reloading them, i'd just spam them like crazy with little disregard for them. As of right now I am very careful and tactful with all my units for fear of losing them. 

 

If they did do unlimited planes, they should add in a fuel range then...or some other reason for me to require some actually thought into "hmm...is this smart of me to dive in now? will I lose them all? etc, etc."
