Aircraft Carrier: The basics

The aircraft carrier is an airbase at sea. They can deploy planes that can bomb other warships and either heavily damage them or even destroy them. They first started experimenting with this idea in 1910 when the first plane took off a United States Navy vessel named  the cruiser USS Birmingham. Then in 1911, the first landing was made. On 4 May 1912 the first plane to take-off from a ship underway flew from the deck of the British Royal Navy's HMS Hibernia.

The invention of flattop vessels produced the first large fleet ships. In 1918, HMS Argus became the world's first carrier capable of launching and landing naval aircraft. By the mid 1920s, nations were designing and producing these vessels. During world war 2, these carriers became the backbone of naval battles. Wakamiya, a Japanese aircraft carrier conducted the first naval air raids in 1914. These raids were heavily effective as these aircraft can do their thing on the battlefield then come back for more ammunition and a gas refill and be ready again. The aircraft carrier has since replaced the battleships because they were more effective and outperformed the battleship.

So the aircraft carrier is basically an airbase on a ship. It carries warplanes that are deployed into the air from the ship to destroy other ships. They can then come back to refuel and restock on ammo. The first carrier capable of launching and landing a naval aircraft was the HMS Argus. From there, aircraft carriers were becoming ever more popular and nations around the world were racing to design the best carriers because they were a very important part in naval combat. The aircraft carrier soon replaced the battleship because they were more effective.

Now, what about the submarine aircraft carriers? Do you think eventually they will replace the flat top carriers?

the I-400 literally was the biggest sub during WWII. not sure of how many seirans it carried but it was big.

as for the aircraft carriers, well they have a moderate amount of AA to protect them against air threats at the same time several small guns enough to keep destroyers (not sure of cruisers) off their hulls.

since the carrier is literally your flagship and the most high valuable asset you have, potential carrier players should learn to micro their aircraft since despite the AA suites of all ships, no vessel can successfully evade dive bombing or torpedo holing and that the only feasible deterrent at most is for aircraft to intercept other aircraft as well as keeping the crap away from those weak looking ships that pack deadly torpedoes.

It carried 3 planes, not much. The only advantage they had was that oil could be pre warmed prior to take off meaning that they would only need half an hour on the surface to launch Aircraft...
The notion of Submarine Aircraft carriers was not new, The British, Japanese and French all had tried it before hand. With your average cruiser been able to carry more planes it was not really worth it from a launching point of view. And the addition of radar, long range reconnaissance planes and reliable sonar meant that there was little need for them to be used for scouting.

To be honest no submarine carrier will ever be put to modern use over an aircraft carrier. The resources required and the limitations are not worth the effort.
