OK I will be the first to say it. Something needs to be done about the Japanese Torpedoes that can shoot half way across a map. What a load of Dung.

Just be glad that they didn't implement the Long Lances with 40km range?

You're not the first person to say it, one of the other people that said it got negged into oblivion. If IJN destroyers couldn't invisitorp, they'd be USN destroyers except with worse guns and longer torp reload. It's also not that hard to evade them, changing speed and course can save lives. It's not that easy.

They did, ranges in WOWS is compressed by about 1/2

^^^

Speaking of which, USN tier 10 torpedo on Gearing can hit 16.5km range, and have a shorter detection range than Shimakaze's 15km or 20km range torps.

Still nothing that comes close to 40. And BBs benefit from that compression for dodging too -- easy to turn and change speed.

buff them to cover the rest of the map!   (seriously they are fine. stop crying and learn to zigzag)

if yamato can learn to zigzag. so can you.

longer range torps just means they less and less likely to hit someone who isn't being an idiot by driving in a straight line.

turn from time to time and you'll never have to worry about them.

if you to lazy to dodge

then this is your fate

Something needs to be done about people driving in a straight line... Like maybe if you drive in a straight line for too long a Kraken comes out from under your ship and brings you to the bottom of the ocean ...

Remember kids, wanna evade the Kraken? Don't' drive in a straight line..

General progression in attitude towards torpedoes goes as follows,

new to the game --->. Cool, torpedoes!

After getting killed by invisible DD ---> omg op invisitorps!!! Nerf now!

After playing a while and discovering the WASD keys --->. Oh look! Torpedoes incoming!  Let me use my new found powers of steering!

Well, ideally you should be maneuvering before you see the torpedoes. And with the new detection ranges on IJN DDs, there shouldn't be much excuse for not seeing the splashes of torps hitting the water, or simply making sure to zigzag when you catch sight of them.

The range is not really the problem(IMO), it is that even after 15 plus km they are all still side by side, like they just launched them. By that range, torps will surely have moved apart.

But... they do diverge? Even on narrow spread, they still spread. The only tops that run parallel are from USN air dropped.

Try some things:

+Dont sail in straight paths for excessive amounts of time, especially if you know destroyers are alive.

+Change course regularly. Shifting a few degrees back and forth make a difference

+Regularly change speeds. Then throttle up and down.

Are these efficient ways to travel point A to point B. No. It will take longer. But these little things can help you alot when avoiding torpedoes. Even if you don't know where they are coming from. Also, invest skill points in the perk that increases torpedo acquisition range (forget what it's called.)

errr.... Yeah that is my point. 40 in real life is 20 in game. The long lance or Type 93 is in game on the Shimakaze.

Oh hmm, didn't realize tier X went out that long. I assume they have a massive reload then XD And you'll have to be driving straight for a loooong time to get hit by torps at that range.

There is already... they are called torpedoes.  and...    15", 16", & 18" shells that also come from 20km out...  :P

They are on the Kagero as well. Nothing makes me giggle like getting hits on targets 15+km out. The only thing better is hitting something 5+km PAST the intended target; I got a detonation on CV in CBT doing that, once.

Theoretically, a Yamato fitted with the range increase module with its scoutplane up can fire out to 36km. Having played Yamato pre-OBT with range module but no scoutplane, shell flight time firing out to then-max range of 31 kilometres is approximately 28 seconds.

You want retardedly long range? Go with the above setup. Those shells only take about a quarter of the time torpedoes need to reach their target. Also, they make for good leading practice.
