Going to be a UBER busy day for me today with Test Servers starting for WoWs, WoT and AW.

Anybody think it's a coincidence they are competing for their slice of the player pie around the same time too?

coincidence? nope

if you saw AW's latest email survey. you'll see they are looking into WW2 tanks.  considering they have working PvE, balanced arty, and devs who are bringing out alot of content fast.   this means WG giving 2 test servers out is to try to keep people from spending time on the AW beta.

as WG needs to buy time to get their own PvE and rebalanced arty out before AW decides to release WW2 tanks.

personally, i think WoT needs to get a move on or it will die out to AW (as we've been w8ing for arty rebalance and PvE for how long from WoT? and my confidence in them isn't high after the historical battle failure. with no release dates or progress reports for either of these mentioned....WG is playing with fire and really risking being burned)

but WoWS is strong with no competitor in sight. so WG's "safehouse" has changed from WoT to WoWS.

Very well said. And if AW is getting in WW2 tanks, they will have to face heavy competition from WoT and War Thunder FailGround Forces.

Gaijin said Naval Forces has been delayed, which gives WoWS at least a year or two lead time to get on its feet and be ready.

it was just a survey though xD  keep that in mind.

for all we know AW just did this to spook WG.

actually competiting with WoT on the WW2 theme is hard and while AW is capable of it....it would be a massive investment of resources to match WoT in a timely manner

It would be a massive financial and reputational risk to them.

yep.

though reputation wise....they are a bit better recieved atm as people tend to be getting ticked off at waiting for WG to keep its promises of PvE, arty rebalance, WT auf E 100 replacement,  gold rebalance........constant delays on those with no release date or progress report.  (and russian Bias...like the buff to the buffed IS-3. no i don't mean the front plate....no i don't mean the turret. i mean the side armor.....as if IS-3 needed a buff they buffed the side weakspot from 20 to 90mm.....RIP people with under 200 pen)

meanwhile AW has thus far kept its promises(how long they can keep this up...idk.) and as a result is seen in a more cheery light.

and then at the bottom of the scale Gaijin continues to stab themselves over and over and over by getting caught with scam sales on steam,  blackmailing youtubers, and censorign their forums....

seriously someone take the knife away from Gaijin before they bleed out.

Agreed. My answers and comments were to focus on MODERN tanks as it would be too convoluted to try to incorporate WWII and Modern toys in the same game. I did however, tell them if they plan on that IM crap like WoT to just have to OPEN to be completed randomly and not force players to mindlessly focus on one aspect.

Some interesting features aside, the gameplay and interface of AW are such a literal copy of WoT that I can't see any reason to play for WW2 stuff again.  Their gimmick is copying WoT in a different era, just like all the World of Warcraft clones over the years that added their own twist.  Even if they add WW2 stuff, I think interest in that aspect would be much lower.  Even if WT ground forces had played better than it did, I still would have had the same feelings of "man, I have to grind this tank again?" and then just go back to my nice garage where my friends were still playing.  AW needs to stick with the modern era.  If Wargaming had gotten the ball rolling with a modern-combat expansion, I don't think AW would even have a market.

I think AW could be interesting just because it's tanks that I haven't played yet, but I'm honestly just tired of tanks.

Gaijin made a good game, ruined by the stupidity of themselves. I'd rather have them bleed out and die tbh.

Ships are our saviors! lol

You really can't compare WoT and AW well, their only similarities is a similar engine, gameplay, and survival system.

But those are the biggest ones.  When you're playing a game that's similar to one you've played before, and you start getting the feeling that you've done this all before, it's not a good thing.  Some variety in vehicles and game modes with a few mechanics changes can be fun for awhile, but you probably won't put 3 years into AW if you've already put 3 years into WoT.  That feeling is ok for a genre of FPS that gets replaced every year like Call of Duty, but in a grindy MMO-type game that rewards time spent it rarely works out.  AW is much more similar to WoT than WTGF was, for whatever that's worth.  I thought that WT planes being based only on module damage was great, and that hit points didn't really work for planes.  That didn't transfer over well to tanks in my opinion.  I really didn't think hit points would work well with ships, but the way they've done it in WoWS actually feels pretty good.

And that's the hook. Where WT tried to reinvent tanks AW just took a very successful model and applied to to a modern era. Millions of tank fans can easily jump into there game with very little effort and virtually no down time for training where as with WT you have to retrain your brain.

Jumping in and staying are different things.  I played World of Warcraft for over a decade, and I and millions of others tried several other MMORPGs that played very similarly.  They were fun at first, but after awhile you tend to go back to the game where all of you friends are already playing, and where you've already got characters/vehicles/whatever stockpiled from all that time you've already spent.  Once the novelty wears off, it's hard to commit to re-grinding a new but similar game while simultaneously letting go of all of the time you've already spent on that old game.

What makes me think that WoWS is going to be successful is that I'm not having to play solo.  Friends that I played tanks with every day for a couple of years (you'd probably recognize the names from your time in the Relic community) have embraced the swap to a new game.  Being months in, still being enthusiastic about the game, and having friends that are still eager to log on and play is a good sign, especially with only two nations released and a limited map selection.
