Upper tiers and draws

Upper tier games have, for me, turned into at least 1/3 draws.  I really wanted to continue to grind to X, but at this point I'm too exhausted with how people "play for draws"....

Probably because people get smarter and don't yolo charge down the middle at the start of the game as often.

I blame the maps. They are far too square with too much cluttering in the middle. This results in slow BBs taking an even longer route around the edge of the map, instead of going up closer to the middle, where they will see more action. BB players, for obvious reasons, tend to avoid tight clusters of islands.

Honestly, OP, if you are getting 1/3 draw you are playing WAYYY too passively. The draws I see (regardless of tier) typically happen because one team plays very passively. They draw the enemy in,allow them to over-extend. If they win this battle, they are in such a deep position in their own territory that it is often too late to get to the enemy cap and/or find the remainder of the enemy ships. The cure for this is to find a balance in your own play, and pay attention to the clock. In many of my draws, I have pointed out to the team at the 8-9 minute mark that we are running out of time.

Almost invariably, though, I get back 'noob' comments followed by opinions that there is plenty of time left. The problem is, if you are 8-10 grids from a cap, even in a DD speedboosting, you are 3-4 minutes out, and solo caps take 2min30sec. If the most of remainder of your team is in BB's, you can often see draws coming from about the 10 minute mark. It doesn't take alot of situational awareness to avoid a draw, but SA is the hardest skill to learn.

And don't even get me started on the morons who decide to leave cap because they want one more kill.....

And don't even get me started on the morons who decide to leave cap because they want one more kill.....

Nothing wrong with that, so long as I can fire back at who ever is shooting at me except for BB with +15km range where dispersion takes over or cruisers/DD comes to me.  Carriers on the other hand, need to die and I will roll off cap to kill them before I go back to cap....because I will not generate capture points while I am being bombed, torped, and desperately avoiding torpedo spam while ineffectual AA does jack crapwhile I wait for a 3 minute timer. All it does is generate higher rewards for the carrier, list of points most people will call scrub attitude but

- carriers have cruiser hitpoints starting out, eventually about tier 6/7 BB hitpoints by the end of the line

- carriers have low visibility for IJN, almost like a DD at start and cruiser like by the end of the line, USN carriers have visibility like a cruiser, still hard to hit them when they hide beyond gun range

- Fire power like a DD, multiple plane wings,  and can strike beyond the range of almost all gun ships.  They need to die first before capping

- AA is a joke, as you cannot kill enough planes in 3 minutes to stay alive and the timer is way to long to make a difference on the skill.  Higher tier carriers also have a lot of planes

- there is no reward for trying and dying, just a repair bill.  Perhaps half of the cap points awarded even if you are hit would make be a good incentive to stay in the circle. That means being awarded, even if you die...none of that generate points and get nothing while rewarding the enemy crapwhen you burn, the game rewards personal effort not group effort...where as at least half of your capture points awarded back at you for sinking for staying on cap would still be working for the team. (too long, glossed over...next time you sink look at cap points awarded when you sink....you get nothing for trying; WG changes that and more people might stay on cap longer)

- who likes feeling helpless for 3 minutes?  Not many people, pretty sure most people can deal with other ship types while on cap except for carriers.

Only other time is I am moving a lot and sometimes not paying attention to how close I am to the line....I will just roll over it.  Other times my team just stops doing anything (if they are not screaming STOP CAPPING!) when the cap bar starts to fill and I feel like suddenly I am facing 5 guys on the enemy team (especially carriers, cause my carriers are usually torping instead of providing cover..even one Torp/Bomber wing would be nice incase a DD/carrier pops up or fighters to counter the enemy carriers so we win by capping...nope my carriers are concerned about the enemy carrier), have had team mates turn away from enemy earlier because they suspected the match was a loss....and I am supposed to trust everyone for giving up?  Sorry, I will move away from cap as it is not my prerogative, I won't wait 3 minutes by myself to be bombed or on very low health unless I have back up....which is never there or no team work to begin with so I don't even try much, to much yellow stripping cowards spinning in the back firing at max dispersion range and no one willing to take the lead (where as if I even try to take the lead, no follows...end result most matches loss).

-

Long story short, I will take what I earn be it a loss or draw as it is what I earned.  Draw is even better in my opinion cause it pisses so many people off but they forget, they can also change the outcome but they heap it all on one person and kind of stop doing anything (if not focusing the enemy carriers when its down to the last 1/3 of each team).  More people aim for cap, I will follow...no one doing anything but spinning in circles 3 minutes into a game (I can usually tell 90 seconds what the outcome will be, when the first shots are starting)...no incentive to try hard as most of my matches are a loss unless the enemy are worse players than my team.

note: what the hell is with the forums, paragraphs are impossible to keep close together as I am seeing like 4 return hits if none at all or they turn into one giant wall of text cause return key/line break isn't working well (yes, my enter key is working find) not to mention how hard it is to edit out block of quoted text (you don't need to quote 3 pages of another persons wall of text, cause I know I just typed two :sceptic:)

Its a natural result of not being able to play aggressively.

The extremely high penalty for death (200K+ in repairs) means nobody is willing to take a lot of risks. As such people will play a little more conservatively meaning games will take longer to complete.

Whether I play aggressive or not isn't the issue - its becoming more the norm for people to play defense than offense on those maps.  Compared to domination maps where you are nearly forced to move round and play.

Here is game i just came from.  I started moving to cap just under 8 min mark and due to islands I couldn't get there in time to cap..  Also, only ship left was a CV, and for some god knows why reason they gave that ships a crazy good camo rating, you can't find them at all.

Others experience the same draw non-sense.  Its dumb the way WG has it.
