I used to be primarily a battleship player, I enjoyed the long range combat a ton but I decided to switch that out, I then went into the american cruisers. These were alright but something was wrong with them and I still can't put my finger on it... so I became bored on playing them. Then when open beta hit I tried out the Japanese cruisers, always good to try out new things right? I was at the tier 3 cruiser when I started to see the bright of it, the guns just sound fantastic! Then at the Kuma all hell broke loose... Every single game was absolutely amazing, I swear for every winning game I must have gotten more than 3 kills easily, plus I never sailed a ship before where I got 5 kills back to back with every match. I was a bit sad when I transitioned to the furutaka (furious taco), however that sadness was short lived because... my first match I got 6 kills... I think I am officially a Japanese cruiser captain from now on :teethhappy:

Good sounding guns+Fast ship+torpedoes=amazing

tier 4 and below are great

tier 5 is a downside. but hopefully fixed in next patch

tier 6 is a preview to the rest of the line, with the bad citadels, good guns, decent torps. and good stealth.     but ironically has the best firing guns of ANY of them xD        -keeper

tier 7 is....decent but the downside is the 3 rear facing torps (something Atago has...)

tier 8 fixes this with 3 front facing torps.  and is just epic!  the first ship above tier 4 to benefit from the captain skills for + reload, traverse, AND range with its 155mm.       -keeper. and owner of the Queen of Tier 8 title (king going to North Carolina)

tier 9 is...not bad but its honestly feels a bit dissapointing after Myoko and Mogami got you used to so many turrets.     it improves the stats ever so slightly but its just not as appealing (doesn't help it has HORRIBLE repair cost.  RIP)

tier 10 is epic.  with a MASSIVE boost to citadel armor and hull armor compared to ANY of the other ships in its line.  the guns are inferior to Des Moines, but its a beauty of a ship with EXTREMELY fast moving torps (72knots!.  only 8km range but that means anyone who gets within 8km range had better get the fk out of range FAST).  and its the first ship in its line to have a WORKING torpedo belt (does a good job decreasing torp dmg. and decreasing chance of flooding)

-it should be mentioned that TECHNICALLY the Mogami is the first to have a torpedo belt thats useful, but its rather hard to notice the belt working until the Zao. where it shows up strong.

Yes the Japanese cruisers are much fun and seriously outclass the American ones from tier 6 and up, yes even the Cleveland is just "on par" with the Aoba. Now the pre-OBT Cleveland was a different story. But the Japanese cruisers from tier 6 up get the same 203 guns with better rates of fire and torpedoes, as well as generally more HP to boot!

I don't know if they outclass American cruisers.  The Myoko is probably better than the Cleveland, but it's no as much of a no-contest as people think.  IJN cruisers do let you do weird things like torpedo stuff and their guns are much easier to use.

The Japanese 203mms are fun guns because they're so easy to use, but there's a drawback to them: They don't improve.  The 203mms you were using in the Furutaka are the same ones you're using the Ibuki (the Zao gets better guns).

American 8" guns continually get damage improvements as they go up in tiers.  While a few hundred points of damage doesn't seem like much, it actually makes a large difference, especially when you get things like citadels because the damage that gets through the armor is essentially multiplied.  So a few hundred points more ... are multiplied.

The big drawback of USN 8" guns in that annoying lofting trajectory, making it a chore to hit at long range but they actually have smaller dispersal than the IJN ones, so at closer range, they're superior.

The Aerican 8" guns get more damage as the tiers increase? I did not know that as I have not looked at the high tier cruisers in a good while. Guess that is something to note.

Mogami is love, Mogami is life. I so need her back.

One reason I still haven't sailed in my Ibuki(unlocked her Saturday night, bought the ship Monday) is that I refused to sell Mogami therefore is short on cash to mount upgrade on Ibuki.

Didn't regret it though, two games today back to back:

Their cruisers are just plain amazing overall, you can't help but like using them in battle.

Hence why I am going up both cruiser lines first.

203mm Gun AP Damage Table:

Furukata stock(200mm gun)/Pensacola stock 4500
Pensacola upgraded,New Orleans, Baltimore stock 4600
Furukata upgraded,Aoba,Myoko,Mogami(8"),Atago,Ibuki 4700
Baltimore upgraded, Des Moines 5000
Zao 5400

American 8" gun have higher AP damage at tier 9 once upgraded, but otherwise does less AP damage at all tiers. Japanese 203mm HE shell is much better too, deal 500 more damage and have 2% higher chance of starting a fire(14 vs 16%, Zao's have 18% chance).

They have done nothing to the Cleveland so if it was good in CBT it's still good in OBT and I really feel the only ship that is some what weak on the us CA line is the pensacola due to the fact it's a steep learning curve from the T6 but if you take the time in it you will own in the T8 and up with US

If you watch videos of the Cleveland shortly before and after the launch of the OBT patch, you can see they made its arc about 5-6 degrees higher, leading to much longer flight times. It's really difficult to effectively fight other cruisers outside of 10km that do a good job of maneuvering and adjusting speed frequently.
