Do you auto drop or manual drop ?

Title says it all. I find manual drops almost impossible for me to pull off. I know with practice i can improve but is it worth it ? Auto drop seems to do not to bad. Any tips hints or suggestions welcome.

Manual drop is really only way to go.

At tier 4 and 5, both seem about the same. Starting around tier 6 or 7, auto drop will NEVER hit. The target will dodge it 90% of the time. Either you learn how to manually land the torpedoes, or you run into a brick wall at tier 6 or 7.

 

The carrier system is broken and needs a rework.

Manual drop is where you hold alt then click on the enemy. Auto drop is where you just click in them.

Manual but carriers are a pain in the you know the rest. I have tried both but find manual easier

The only time you auto is if you will die before the planes reach their target.

Depends on how many torp bomber groups I have.

2+ I auto drop in a cross pattern.  Nothing like watching people panic as they try to figure out how to dodge waves of torps moving in different directions.

Only 1 torp group?  Manual drop.  Way too easy to dodge 1 wave.

As others have already pointed out -  You can tell immediately the difference between auto-drop and manual drops.  9 out of 10 manual drops will always catch me in a BB.  They take advantage of your reaction time, rudder shift time and the turn radius. The manual drop will own you every time.  It also one way a BB captain knows how well the CV player is.  They get those drops at that .7 range, just far enough to arm, and no time for any action on your part (EVEN IF YOU TURN INTO THEM). Then they know their ranges.  If you survive, you know the next volley will kill you hehe

Auto torp or Bombs only ever score 1 or 2 hits.  Manual can score 4 or 5 hits out of 6

 

Torp Planes - One of them is always manual drop while if I have too many coming in at once the rest are auto drop.

 

Dive bombers - Manual Drop on Carriers and BB that are not maneuvering.  Auto drop on CA and DD unless run aground and not moving.

 

Best Auto Torp Drop - 1 hit on 3 different ships in a bunched up ball

Best Manual Torp Drop - Double Strike 6/6 hit and sunk 2 CA.  Killed the front with 4/6 hit and the 2 remaining went about 5 km and sunk a 2nd one somehow.

Best Manual Bomb Drop - Manual 5/6 hit on a BB and 4 fires.

Best Auto Bomb Drops - 1 drop Magazine hit on a Minekaze and on a New York (I bet the NY player was like wth- since full HP then dead).

 

I often go for the manual drop with the bombers if I am also desperate for a big hit on a pursuing CA that will kill my CV.  Couple time epicly killed them - couple of time epicly missed them, failed, and died.  I do this if they are at like 5K+ hp and I need to get ~3 bomb hits to kill them.

Manual TB drop only. Decent players will evade auto TB drop easily.

 

I use auto DB drops on most everything except for BBs and CVs sailing in a consistent line. Honestly DBs even with manual drops are RNG fests.

It's not impossible to dodge most of the torpedoes. Maneuver early and change your throttle.

I do not play carriers that much but when I do I manual drop Torps and Auto drop Bombs. I play mostly BB's at the moment and I do not have any trouble dodging most torps. On rare occasions I will get focused by a good carrier driver and that can be tougher to deal with.
