Pointless post other than the fact that I just want everyone to know that the payoff is well worth it at higher tiers in the US BB line. I know the low to mid tier ships can be quite the pain, (Minus New Mexico, what an awesome ship!) but I assure you that once you get to North Carolina, you will fall in love. Guns hit HARD, incredibly good penetration, insane range, and they're pretty darn quick. The NC can be a little rough stock, (currently playing it stock now other than engine) but it still has significant potential. Iowa gets even better as well. It's faster, harder hitting guns, and an all around great ship to play. I absolutely loved mine in CBT. And the Montana.... Do I even need to say it? 12 barrels of citadeling DEATH! Getting 50-60k salvos in Montana is an absolute dream....

Just wanted to give the community a little "pick me up" for those that are unfortunately still at lower tiers, (or the dreaded Colorado....) I'd also recommend completely skipping the Colorado and staying in New Mexico to get to NC. (If you can afford the gold to convert free exp.)

Good luck guys, remember it gets a LOT LOT LOT better. The payoff for sticking through it is well worth it! Happy hunting sailors and stay excited for the higher tiers! :izmena:

I had both the Yamato and Montana in CBT. I preferred the Montana pre- AA nerf, I would now give the edge to the Yamato for being the better ship with 10km secondaries (upgraded). Overall the grind is better on IJN side with faster ships and longer range, the only drawback being the Izumo (bow on and let your secondaries do the work).

I went up US BB line to take advantage of the Arkansas beta it was pretty painful grind especially the Colorado. I have a fully upgraded North Carolina and looking forward Iowa due to the bugged central tower of superstructure than is immune to HE damage.

I'm trying to stick with them but i find them boring. They slow to do everything and if a flank falls, you are usually too slow to change course. So you have to be really good at reading the tides of battle. Plus i suck at leading with those damn guns lol but somehow i can hit a weaving CA with my Farragut

Fair point forgot about that.  Which would you give the edge to in overall damage potential on average Yamato or Montana?  Suppose I should ask Pickle he has both.

More than IJN, US BB needs a good deal of pre-planning  to be efficient. The tendency to hang together and hold corners instead of diving into the thick of battle makes them kind of useless in the later stages of a battle. It's a hard balance to achieve, requiring a lot of minimap reading to make sure one isn't outnumbered.

If you can do that, even low-mid US BB will perform quite well using tehir thick armour and guns.

Moving up the line I actually really enjoyed both the New York and New Mexico.  They are slow, sure, but both pack a punch and have decent range when upgraded with the range modification (~18km or so).  They also turn quickly, but are slow in a straight line.

This past weekend I played my heart out and got enough free XP to skip the Colorado and unlock the North Carolina.  It is a beautiful ship, and packs a punch if you can get a hit.  It's dispersion seems pretty wide though, and I haven't gotten the hang of proper lead for the end of it's range (20+ km).  I also have the engine upgrade which helps it alot.  I was surprised how slow it is to turn, even with the rudder shift modification.  I was hoping it would feel a bit "snappier" like the New Mexico did with the same rudder shift mod.  AA is great though.  I currently have a pretty rough win rate in the NC, and have had some real potato moments in it, but have had some great games too.  This ship definitely gets you in the higher tier matches which really take an upturn in opponent difficulty.  Maybe that's one reason NOT to skip the Colorado.

I don't particularly like the BB style of play in general, but I'm burning my free xp to skip as many ships as I can in order to get to the Colorado and NC.  When you get to tier 8 and above, esp. the NC and Iowa they are really a treat to play without too many vices.  Plus they look pretty nice!

Should I skip the S. Carolina then and get the Wyoming? I have them both Elite with research and keep going up that line? I had the SC in CBT and now I heard it's not as good?

I didn't have any trouble with the SC this time around, but every match I had in it was tier 3 or lower

Lucky you. My St.Louis always gets tier V and only once, I got other tier III and some tier II to kick around. I do want something that hits harder though.

About the Wyoming though, I noticed that with the 2nd hull, I lose my secondary guns and get more AA weapons. Is that better?

The North Carolina is the first ship that really feels on part with it's Japanese counter-part for me, but mobility is a big part of my playstyle.  The New York and the New Mexico were good or even great, but I didn't play them as well as the IJN ships at that tier.  My North Carolina is much closer to my Amagi, but it also plays very similarly in most regards.
