I have managed to get myself the Japanese Tier V carrier. and thought has accrued to me is what makes the Japanese Cv's advantageous over the american counterparts. From my observations (and ship  wikiing)The american Cv's get more planes per squad and better fighters. so what makes Japanese Cv's equal or better compared to the American Cv's?

I also look in the flight deck control modules  "upgrades" in exchanging up my only fighter squad for more torpedo bombers or Dive bombers which i do not take the bait on that waste of XP because i think having at least one squad of Fighters is important to keep the team somewhat more alive. Am I a fool for not researching it?

upgrade the zuiho to the 0/3/1 loadout (no fighters, extra bombers) then watch yourself sink half the enemy fleet by yourself every match.

Thats if the enemy carriers don't reach you first with their squads. if you don't have fighters then good luck surviving.  You need the fighters to try minimize if not destroy the incoming attack waves. Im not sure if i have the right mindset with the "current meta"

I do understand your hesitance. I was in a game where it was my Zuiho vs and enemy Zuiho. He was 0/3/1, I was 1/2/1. He tried his best to focus my carrier down with bombers, but my fighters held him off while my bombers harassed the enemy fleet. Harassed, and not focused, as I am still rather crap at torpedo bombing....But my auto drop, post-mortem TB's did sink a New York, so that is something.

I played battleships before playing carriers. I simply just learned how to dodge the torps.

press 1 then z to see your ship from the "normal" (ie, from behind, not above) ship perspective

For carriers? Is that how it's done?

I played Battle-stations Midway back in the day when it was still somewhat popular on PC's and when Gamespy was still alive, so i learned most naval "tactics" from that game. :P

Yeah, press 1 to select yourself, then press z to change your view to the "normal" view.
