70 Altrunchen Members 151 posts 1,899 battles Report post #1 Posted August 3, 2015 Like the survey about ship classes and user preferences, this one is intended to focus on the "why" factor behind the data since WG can probably fetch the popularity statistics by themselves. But let's see if we can figure out why people support one tech tree versus the other. I mostly play the US ships, not because of any gameplay advantage but because of a petty and stubborn sense of patriotism :p. I know it's simplistic, but it is what it is honestly. Either way it's probably useful for WG to know as much as they can about their userbase.

IJN love (cause they pretty and stylish. love the deck color vs the hull and the cruiser's angled rear instead of flat rear) USN like (lose points for the flat rear, but they do get points for good turret set ups) Russian hate (cause you know they gonna be buffing those paper ships to unfair levels to enforce the russian bias of the IS-3)

Maybe it's just me being a bit obsessive-compulsive. And yeah, I've heard in other games that are similar to WG's that the Russian options tend to be highly buffed because IRL they were usually terrible. But hey, I'm partial to the USN ships and I'll be the first to admit it just because I get a dumb sense of patriotism out of it, yeah it's lame I know but whatevs Edited August 3, 2015 by Altrunchen

I just got my reasons and it would be to long. USN Dislike... To mass produced piles of crap, only effective due to Americas many resources and because the British were crapping their pants and crying to their moms and sending ALL of the UKs research, patents, plans and designs, and pretty much everything including nuclear weapon plans for only 50 US WW1 destroyers as fleet escorts when about 30 were downed by the U-Boat Wolf Packs aaaaaaand kissing Americas rump to have us enter WW2. So meh. Russian vessels? Pfffffffffft. They what, only had minor skirmishes or a few small battles? I'm neutral here cause to me they would all be US ships they got or WW1 ships. Now... The BIG thing is WHY U NU Kriegsmarines? Eh?

Seems like you kind of have a thing against the USN ships though.

I do want some of the Am due to their 'robustness' and AA. I dislike the Rus line simply because the very next nationality should have been the British. What do you expect from a Belarussian/Russian/Cyprian/'Wherever it is for tax purposes' company?

Yeah I don't think that the Soviet navy had much of an impact on WW2 now that I think of it, meh in all honesty I'm biased to the USN ships myself lol. 74 PPH402 Alpha Tester 697 posts 8,544 battles Report post #9 Posted August 12, 2015 I love the IJN ships for torpedos and speed. I like the USN ships for their versatility and AA. I'd love them if their lower tier ships weren't so slow. The BBs are bad, but the Langley and Bogue? They're painful in their slowness. I'm not a CV driver that parks behind islands. The Russian ships I like. The Gremy has guns that can citadel CAs and torps that can be launched outside of spotting range. The Murmansk is the Omaha, which I like, and the Aurora is a discount St Louis. I also like my one RN ship. Way to small of a sample to do more than like though. 195 [KMK] richie_macrophage Members 952 posts 5,215 battles Report post #10 Posted August 14, 2015 US ships. I prefer cannonade over torpedoes as torpedoes tend to miss and have a long reload. US ships have good armor and excellent firepower, as well as better carriers

90 DV_Potatobaiter Members 276 posts 907 battles Report post #12 Posted August 17, 2015 I will only play US. I'm pretty neutral on the IJN ships (or apathetic depending on how you look at it) and the Cold War never ended for me so it'll be a cold day in hell before I ever play anything Russian. 0 Oldson Beta Testers 5 posts 1,550 battles Report post #15 Posted August 19, 2015 Have been enjoying the IJN DD's. Yesterday encountered my first tier IX American DD, the Fletcher. Come on folks, their rate or fire is like 20 rounds per minute as opposed to 8 for the IJN comparable DD. Avoiding aircraft detection and cruisers is challenge enough. Disparity in tech trees is to be expected but this seems a bit over the top.
