Howdy Everyone,

Today's topic is the Fletcher/Kingfisher, a tier 8 premium ship in the proposed tech trees/what we know about ships thread. It was a modification to the Fletcher class that removed gun #3 and the rear quintuple torpedo launcher in return for a scout plane. It doesn't have the full gun load out of a Fletcher and has less torpedoes in a full salvo than a single torpedo broadside from the Clemson. A couple of examples of this were the USS Pringle and USS Halford. So my question is how will this particular premium play? It gets a scout plane, so an escort, or maybe a pure scout. I'm pretty sure it'll be getting the 10.2 km torps from the Fletcher, but with only one quintuple launcher it seems as if these torps'll be a last resort.  It gets a scout plane, so will this premium be worth it in your opinion? I know I'll be getting it just for the uniqueness of it. It's certainly more unique than the Bismarck, it's also going to be far less popular for obvious reasons. I personally think it's going to be like the Dicker Max from WoT for a popularity comparision. You only see a few Dicker Max's a day in WoT, maybe it'll be the same with the Fletcherpult. Anyways, would you buy it, and how do you like it'll play?

Well, if they add something like this I'd certainly like it. It may prove to be very useful in finding someone coming from behind an island and throwing torpedoes out. I think it's a good trade off. However personally I probably wouldn't buy it as I don't imagine the torpedoes being long range or anything.

The USS Pringle was essentially a very early ASW ship, designed to screen convoys for surfaced subs. No subs in WoWS, so I don't see the reason for a gimped Fletcher here.

Honestly I don't think that's a tier 8 ship.  Scouts kind of suck in WoWs right now.  Losing the gun and the torp tubes is just too much IMO.  It is an interesting ship and unique, but I pray they wouldn't stick this at tier 8.  Depending on how long range the torps are (and likely even if this thing has longer range torps), the Sims would probably out fight this thing.

It'd be cool to have...at like tier 7 or so.

It has the same amount of guns as the Benson, and half as many torpedo tubes as the Benson. It also gets a scout plane to compensate for the 5 torpedo tubes, I think it definitely belongs at 8.

If we were really lucky, the Eire should have a scout plane on it. Now that would be fun. Putting one on a Fletcher is a waste.

> Remove scout plane

> Add float fighter

that was my thought...make it a hybrid AA DD with a fighter and a few more AA guns. it could be fun if balanced right.

With a T8 Floatplane fighter and fast enough reload(67% of fletcher's dual tube rate of fire should work) on the Torpedo tube(give it Fletcher's Top Torpedo)  it should play fine as a T8(Premium).

Nah, what we need instead is a giant catapult big enough to toss an entire fletcher clear across the map, if only to scare the enemy team because now fletchers are raining on them.

We already have them.  They're called aircraft carriers; they shoot destroyers across the map who launch torpedoes at optimal torpedo range.

Don't you go derailing this thread with CVs.

Something like that may work.

Right now scouts just really aren't anything that special.  Not compared to torp tubes at least.

You do know they had a Clemson class DD fitted out similarly at a much earlier date. USS Noa (DD-343) had a floatplane fitted(though no catapult) in 1937 to test the feasibility of the idea.

Oooh. a clemsonscout, Scout plane at Tier 4. Though you hope the low CVs doesn't swap it out of the sky.
