Well I just got the New Mexico after grinding through the New York, which I have to say is probably my favorite BB in the game so far. It wasn't the greatest ship, but after being upgraded I could usually attain 4-5 hits with each salvo. So I had a pretty good time in it as it also had a 17.8km range with the gun control module upgrade. Well now I am stuck in the New Mexico which is a tier higher yet I only have a 13.7km range and can only manage to hit 1 out of 12 shells with each complete salvo, and that's with me firing each turret after the other so I can adjust after each. The accuracy is equal to or worse than what the Arkansas/Wyoming is. And it really does not do any more damage either. So I kind of feel like I wish I could just use my New York to grind the Colorado.

Tier 6 BB (Fuso/NewMex) is not about pinpoint accuracy, though it can still be attained.

Instead, it is simply about how well you

SHOTGUN

New Mex has MUCH better accuracy than the NY.   I couldn't wait to get out of the NY in CBT.  Every game in it was pure pain just watching one salvo fly OVER my target and the very next fall short, all without moving my targeting reticule.   The New Mexico fixes a lot of that as it's the first USN BB that actually has a tight dispersion and really high accuracy.   Wyoming to a small degree was good at getting in shots, but nowhere close to as much fun as the New Mexico is.      Honestly the two real bright points as far as battleships goes are the New Mexico and the North Carolina.   Sadly they sandwich one of the most maligned ships in between, the Colorado.   There's a ship that has atrocious accuracy issues.

I just didn't like the NY as you were intended to only use it under 10km otherwise you couldn't hit anything with it.  That was a crappy concept coming from Wargaming's mouth, even at Tier 5.  The NM at least gives you the chance to consistently hit your target every salvo, even at max range.   It also has the first legitimate AA batteries as far as I'm concerned.

Oh dear I really wouldn't bother using the range mod your accuracy is already bad making it worse just for 2 km is hardly worth it.

I actually found myself doing well with the range mod on the New York, hitting targets pretty damn well from 10-17km.  The New Mexico is absolutely a better ship in accuracy and grouping (until RNG rears its ugly head) and I'm amazed at just how much more damage I'm doing per game in that versus the NY.  Both that and the Fuso are huge leaps in terms of damage output over their Tier 5 predecessors.

Edit:  I use the range mod on the NewMex.  It's been a huge help in some scenarios.

The new mexico is a beast compared to the NY. Like a lot of ships the stock grinds are usually the worst. Coming out of the fully upgraded NM and going into the colorado was the worst. 12 guns to 8, worse range and worse she'll dispersion.

Huh, I dont think the ship is the problem here

Yeah I am sure it's not me. I managed to do well in the New York. But the New Mexico, at least in stock form, is like firing a shotgun with the way the shells go over and below the ship I am shooting at. With each salvo I get 1-2 hits. I have a 18% accuracy with the main guns, which is terrible. I remember from CBT the New Mexico was my favorite BB I played. But for some odd reason the New Mexico now seems cursed. I was just owned by a Omaha in the last game because I could not hit him while he steadily spammed HE at me. I think I managed around 5 hits on him in a matter of about 2 minutes before he killed me. And he was only 8 km away. I honestly almost rage sold it after that game. Had I been in my New York that Omaha would have been vaporized after 2 salvos.

You'll have similar experience with NM as you did in NY.  Both stock worse than upgraded ship that preceded it and seemingly underperforming at its tier.  But with upgrades it becomes an enjoyable ship to settle into for the grind to the next ship.  I did US cruisers and BBs to 6 at the same time.  Considering what I have coming up at Tier 7, I decided to slow things down on that grind by trying IJN DDs. Upgraded  Cleveland and NM are enjoyable ships to play.
