So I just unlocked the tier six US destroyer and I am trying to figure out how to play it. Looking at the line, it seems I won't be getting any sneaky ranged torps for a while and, with the sacrifice of a gun, the Faragut gets even shorter range torps.

So so what in asking is: what configurations for this DD and later do you all recommend, and what tactics should I use?

The same as all other US DDs T2-7. ambushes and gun boat escort.

I also recommend the guide in my sig.

The Faragut is the tough grind of the USN DD line. It suffers from short torp range like all the other USN DDs but it starts to see the higher tier maps where there are alot less islands to ambush from and the maps are much more open and the BBs can go the whole game and never get with in 10k of an island. I will say dont get the torp upgrade on Faragut as I think the 5.5 k torps are better, but the hull upgrades are worth it. You lose the turret which hurts but you pick up some HP and alot of AA. I have found when you get in the matches where the enemy CV pilot will hover his fighters over you its amusing to turn your AA back on kill the fighter squadron in 30 seconds or so.

The Farragut is a nice break in the USN DD line.

I had much success with her, she is much more formidable than the Mahan in my opinion.

The great thing about the Farragut is she is reasonably fast compared to the mahan. She is smaller, faster and turns better.

Her AA layout is pretty much the same as the Mahan at 25. Which allows her to play a reasonable role as a Fleet escort / picket duty destroyer.

She is the first DD that features the centerline torpedo launchers. Which allows you some flexibility on your angle of attack / ambush.

She excels at 3 things.

Ambushing (An ambush is very rarely something you can do in open water. You wanna play her as a island ambusher / camper . Watch the enemy movements and try to predict a opportunity that would allow you to throw a broad side of torps into an unsuspecting ship as they cross through an island groups. Learn your choke points !)

She also is quite fun to use in open water ambushes, her narrow profile allows you to engage an enemy BB head, and she has the speed that is lacking with the mahan that allows you to close the gap rather quickly.

PSA: If the enemy bb is showing you his broad side, you want to make yourself as narrow as possible. Always wait for the broadside to go off before you turn to make your torpedo drop. A lot of the times I like to turn one way, drop 1 tube only. Wait for the adjustment in the lead and then fire off tube no 2 .

This is Parallele(No pun intended) If you are not firing torps and you are approaching a BB at close range. DO NOT SHOW HIM YOUR BROADSIDE FOR NO REASON ( Even if it means firing off your guns)

It is much harder to hit this ___    (your profile when you are heading straight to a target)

Then this __________________ (your profile broadside)

She excels at hunting enemy DD's. The reason is that because she retains the nimbleness and speed. With the awesome 5 inch guns makes her a very good hunter killer when it comes to enemy DD's.

A lot of people really like the Mahan as an anti DD ship. I personally do not, I find the farragut has the speed and weapons to actually hunt down a IJN DD. Were the Mahan is much bigger and slow.

She is a respectable picket ship. The farragut can find herself in low tier games were AA is very little. She plays a very good AA picket DD especially when the Tier 4/3 BB have no aa and tons of air to worry about. I like to play on the edge of the BB's and try to spot torp spreads for the BB pilots while peppering the planes with the AA i have.

I really enjoyed her as a ship. I actually wish it was the tier 7 and the Mahan was the tier 6. I was able to achieve about a 62% win rate with her. Which is rather nice, but even at that I did have my throw away games that I wish i could forget. But that happens to the best of us..

Good luck and good hunting.

Here are my stats with her, I try my best to achieve a 15% hit ration with my USN DD torps. But that is very hard to maintain at higher tiers.

Average per game.

win rate: 62%

Experience 1,330.52

Damage caused 28,313.55

Warships destroyed 1.07

Aircraft destroyed 0.83

Main battery hit ratio 26%

Torpedo hit ratio 15%

Base capture 0.00

Base defense 15.03
