If this has been brought up i apologize.  So far im really enjoying wows and the fact the most everyone is on a even playing field when it comes to situational awareness and aiming and timing your shots etc. This is because stats dont matter i guess so nobody has started using the ridiculous mods that are rampant in wot.

Is WG going to allow mods to infect this game too so that the mod makes the player more than the player making the player ?

Thanks.

Mods don't really help gameplay in most cases. And the ones that do usually end up getting incorporated into the actual game so they are no longer mods. Many people just dislike "XVM" because it pulls everyones stats from the WG server and shows you how good/bad the people on your team and the enemy team are. It leads to toxicity and elitism. And just generally asshatery.

Protip: people in Chatrooms talking about XVM don't know what XVM does.

I use it and I'll tell you what it does: It's fairly benign.

XVM is primarily a set of user interface modifications that make already present information more accessible.

It also has a feature that can be enabled(disabled by default) that shows the stats of everyone in the battle and color codes them by skill.

It used to contain a "last known position" indicator for the minimap, but WG has since incorporated that feature into the base game.

That's it. That's literally all it does.

It provides no real advantage unless you consider knowing roughly how good the other players are an advantage.

Well, sorry to tell you if no mods is your hope you are indeed doomed.

There are already a variety of mods available for WoWS.  They are pretty innocuous.  Some are nothing more than making your commander look like a pink cartoon pony.  If you really want to see what is available check out  Aslain's site: http://aslain.com/index.php?/topic/2020-040-aslains-wows-modpack-installer-wpicture-preview-v044-06072015/

If you run his mod installer and check the preview box you can see exactly what will change in your interface.

If it is XVM that worries you, again you are doomed.  It will come.  The good news is XVM is completely harmless except: it unlocks knowledge.  The bad news is: that unlocked knowledge fuels some of the baser human instincts.  We have met the enemy and they are us.

Having instant access to player stats via the HUD/GUI allows the "XVM-user" to easily identify and target players of lesser skill, putting themselves into a favorable or superior position.

Personally, I don't have a dog in the fight regarding XVM. I like the detailed "personal stats" that XVM provides, however I don't want to know the skill level of a player when I approach them. I don't think it's fair to the players who are "good" if I were to ignore the "poor" players and only attack the strong players. I also don't think it's fair to the players who are "bad" if I were to ignore the "good" players and only attack the weak players

Edit:

...We have met the enemy and they are us.

Its no mod in particular that bothers me its nore of if you allow one mod youre allowing them all and wg has already admitted the have a serious problem with illegal mods but cant stop them.

Its a shame wows will go the same way..... aw has is right i guess. Thanks for letting me know they are allowed.

and yes I only seen 1 game breaking mod and that was disabled in 3.1(am talking about aim assist)

But about 99% of the mods i seen is just basely visible and does not change the gameplay in anyway. But that not gonna to stop future modders making unfair mods through. To me this is like the golden age of mods(about zero cheat so far)

The ones we have now are not to bad and do not really hurt game play enough to ban them. I would like to see WG make it where we can change the sights. As for the dreaded aim bot or what ever you want to call it. I think it should be in the game for new players and over time it fades around account rank 6. Our maybe the first 5k exp per ship. To kinda help people get use to the guns.

I don't mind most of the mods but I will disagree with you on this point and offer an alternative suggestion. Instead of having new players have the auto aim mod for a set period of time maybe some tutorials showing how to aim and show maybe the pros and cons of the types of rounds ie ap, he, torps, tb, and db. This way the new player doesn't get used to having something and then having it taken away.

Or new players could play PvE to learn game basics like aiming.

Wish WoT had a PvE when I started it. Would have helped more than the little tutorial that is in WoT.

It's actually help those players will less skill live longer.  It puts a target on the guys with a good rating.

They have put an end to any mods they have considered harmful to gameplay in warships. Other than that the mods are fun to use as they recolor your ships or change your aiming reticle for you.

I would be interested to see the source where WG indicates they have 'serious problem' with illegal mods. I have 38k games in WoT and 2k+ here, and other than the AimAssist mod that was here for a little bit, I have rarely if ever seen behavior that would indicate a cheat being used. 99% of what people think are 'cheats' or illegal mods are simply better players wrecking them.

Any game that wants to have a long and fruitful life will embrace the modding community, to one degree or another. Modders constantly breathe new life into a game by doing the dev's job for them. Numerous 'feature's' of WoT's UI can be directly traced to popular mods. Care has to be taken that any mods that give unfair advantages are eliminated, but everything I have seen shows WG has done a pretty good job with this.

Good post here.  Mods are nice and I do use a few of them including a sight mod, Rising Sun Flag mod, opening theme music mod, transparent minimap mod and a few others.  However they don't really confer an real advantage and to be honest, since I use Aslian's installer, any 8 year old and up can easily use these same mods if they really, really feel they offer some advantage.

Honestly I just don't understand why so many people get huffy and puffy about mods other than downright cheats that is.  I mean there is only a problem if the mod isn't available to everyone and guess what?  Anyone can use the same mods I am using.  Further even those questionable mods like Aim Assist and the Overhead Cam had as many drawbacks to them as advantages.   Aim Assist was just as often Miss Assist, at least against any ship other than a BB, at least for me and the overhead cam while nice for being able to aim a bit easier at targets behind islands but still spotted and hitable, caused you to give up your ability to aim vertically at full zoom, a skill critical for lining up AP to generally hit at the waterline and those citadel hitboxes.  Also this mod is now mostly incorporated into the spotter plane mechanic (which I wish they would give am option to trade out for a fighter).

So mods are gun.  Use them, don't complain about them, at least not unless they are actual cheats.

You can switch them on T7 ships

Newsflash. The overhead camera (Eye of Sauron) is in the game now. Launch a spotter plane, and -bam- you get 20% range buff and EoS view. Personally, I find it a bit of a pain, but the range addition is nice.

I agree if they could find a way to determine illegal from skin or sound mod but in wot they are hepless to do so. I played ah which allowed sound and skin mods but you had to submit them then they would ok it.

Basically if enough people find out about the mod and complain, wargaming will look to see if the mod is harming the game's gameplay (wow saying that sounds bad XD) and will take a side on the issue, either putting in a system like it (eye of sauron mod) or disabling the code needed to implement it (aim-assist).

What they need to do if their smart is not allow any type of mod/xvm. play the game the way it is. If you have to mod to win then uninstall and find a new game this one

is to hard for you.

If you have a problem with mods, then you need to be the one that uninstalls. Because WoWS already has them, and there will be more. WG has designed WoWS with the intent to allow mods, which like WoT and WoWP.
