Most "lethal" submarines

Found a table on Wikipedia (groan all you want, it got my interest) for most lethal submarine attacks in history, and noticed that S-13 that sank the Wilhelm Gustloff also sank General Von Steuben a few weeks later, ammounting to a total of 13.000 people killed.

There's also the USS Rasher which sank 2 troop transports, 1 hell-ship and the carrier Taiyo, resulting in the deaths of 11.400 people.

The lists arent even complete, with only sinkings with more than 300 deaths included. Of course the numbers can be disputed, but the point remains. These two, tiny when compared to contemporary surface vessels, ships (probably others as well) each caused the deaths of thousands upon thousands of men. Was thinking of any other individual units that did the same, and the only thing I could think up of was Enola Gay and Bockscar.

Yeah, that's the thing about transport ships. They carry many more ugly bags of mostly water than you'll find on a battleship.

2% of the US Navy sank 33% of the Japanese Navy.

As far as other individual units with a comparable amount of deaths attributed to them or more, look at SS-Totenkopfverbände.

It's hardly appropriate to point out Nazi war crime death tolls when the topic is about submarine kills.

The final line in the OP is him trying to think of other individual units that did the same thing (killed thousands upon thousands) and he himself names the Enola Gay and Bockscar, and the last time I checked, neither of them were submarines either. Forgive me for taking a step through a door that was already open.

I meant vehicle "units", like a single vehicle that had a similar bodycount under its name.

Well my apologies for misinterpreting your wording, just from my experience a "unit" usually encompasses more than one vehicle.

Well yeah, but at the same time I thought it was pretty obvious considering I was talking about specific vehicles like USS Rasher and Enola Gay.
