A Japanese blogger took old monochrome photos of early USA battleships and colorized them to looking almost picture perfect. The ships are from 1895 to 1905

These are the ships in the blog report

BB-5 USS Kearsarge

BB-6 USS Kentucky

BB-7 USS Illinois

BB-8 USS Alabama

BB-10 USS Maine

BB-11 USS Missouri

BB-13 USS Virginia

BB-15 USS Georgia

BB-18 USS Connecticut

BB-19 USS Louisiana

The ships almost look like brand new from the docks. I thought the OP did a good job with the old photos.

The photo of USS Connecticut is probably the most glorious of a warship I've ever seen.

Anyone has any info on why the "Great White Fleet" was painted in such a conspicuous color scheme? It looks amazing, but I'd imagine it was maintenance heavy to keep them looking tip-top. I guess that was the point, to show everyone that the US could not only build a huge number of excellent warships in a short time and send them around the world, but also maintain them to the highest possible degree.

While I usually prefer the original black & white photography of the era he has done an amazing job of making them look like they were taken in color.
