I've been playing the Langley class CV for a little while, but I just cannot seem to get manual aim right. I always aim too far ahead or drop my torpedoes too far away. Battleships I can learn to deal with, but what about cruisers and DDs? I can never get just the right amount of lead so that my torps hit. I've watched several videos by (in all probablility) the best CV player in the game, (Link to his channel here -> https://www.youtube.com/user/space3233) but I just cannot do it right. Does someone have any helpful and easy-to-follow tips that will allow me to get every manual drop on target, regardless of what ship I'm facing? Thanks in advance for any helpful information.

PM MikeHuntz

wow, somebody really negged him for this?  MikeHuntz actually will take the time to work with somebody in a training room over TS to teach somebody.

Maybe someone didn't know it was the name of the most OP CV player. Probably thought I was making a crude joke?...

Well, you can practice to drop torps closer so they don't arm until right before they hit, but I imagine you already know that.

It's definitely tough, but what works for me is imagining a straight line in front of my torpedo bombers and aligning my planes so that this line crosses where I think the enemy will be in 5 seconds or so. You want to get it so that when your planes commit to the torpedo bombing (i.e., when the wedge turns yellow) the enemy is just entering the yellow arc horizontally. Depending on the speed of the ship, you might want to time it somewhere between when 1/3 or 1/2 of the ship is in the yellow zone and when the ship is just outside the yellow zone. I play Japanese CVs though, so my torp spread is a bit narrower. With 6 TBs per squadron you should probably drop with a little more delay than a JP squadron would.

Something else that helps is if the other player is distracted, so you can usually get easier shots on somebody who's busy shooting a target. I've killed a lot of DDs because they were too occupied with firing their guns or aligning their torps at me or my teammates to notice my TB salvo until it is too late.

is there a way to control the spread?  I swear sometimes it looks narrow and sometimes it flips to wide  but I am not sure what I am doing to change it...

The spread depends on the number of planes alive in the squadron

and on whether it is being attacked by fighters or a cruiser with the AA ability active.

I think its a neat mechanic where the spread gets wider as AA/enemy fighters target the bombers.  One thing ive had "limited" success with is running my fighter in just head so the ship targets it then do the torp drop.  This doesn't help against a player who will manually target the Torp Bombers but as said above, hitting "Distracted" targets helps not just with them not avoiding but also the manual AA.

Anyway, good luck!!

Thanks, but one problem; I can't find how to PM people on the WoWS menu. I know it's something simple but I've never had to use it until now.

Also, here's a basic little guide I drew up on how to counter a ship turning:

I think they are removing the manual drops on the 13th patch.   At least that is what the translated notes reflect.

EDIT: never mind looks like a mistake ..   or a joke.
