Explain how fighters affect other planes

I noticed if I'm using torpedo bombers and getting attacked by fighters, their spread gets all messed up. Similarly, if my fighters are attacking enemy bombers but enemy fighters engage my own, my fighters don't seem to want to do anything while under attack. Is there some kind of 'supressed' debuff planes suffer when under attack?

If so, escorting your bombers with your fighters seems really smart. When the enemy fighters try to intercept, your own fighters will cut the enemy planes to ribbons while they just waggle back and forth uselessly.

Air to air combat in this game is confusing because they don't give you really solid numbers to work with. How do I know Dogfighting Expert is working when I have no idea the cruise speed of the planes while playing? How long is a 'limited bonus' your fighters get while engaged with faster enemy fighters?

Another confusing thing is the game doesn't give you a HP bar for planes. I wish it did. It's really hard to tell how much damage planes deal with each other since there's no numbers that pop up telling damage like when you hit ships.

I get what your saying but we really dont need anymore numbers popping up on screen you might give those XVM users a funny feelings down there

Hi Jerjare!  Yes, fighters attacking your torp bombers will make the spread go wider as the pilots panic under the attack (Same for good ship AA too).  its a neat mechanic.

For the cruising speed, you can hover over your fighters back in the dockyard (on the modules screen) and it will tell you cruising speed.  I belive most IJN fighters are faster than USN but you can just pop into the tech tree and pull up any CV to find out for sure.

For health bar, you do have the indicator above planes that lets you know how many are left...would that suffice?  I do hear you on the combat.  not sure what a good solution would be tho.

Hope this helps and good hunting!

The problem is there are some mechanics about planes that are poorly explained:

-When under fire, do random planes in the squadron take damage or does one plane take all of it until it gets shot down? I can't tell since there's no HP bars.

-Do the tailgunners of bombers only damage pursuing fighters as they are approaching, or do they continue to damage them as the enemy fighters attack?

-When attacked by 2+ enemy squadrons of planes, which squadron are your own fighters targeting?

-When multiple squadrons are being fired upon by a single ships AA fire, is that ship doing full damage to both squadrons or is it split between all the squadrons in range?

the squad you are targeting will take more damage

if you are targeting bombers and fighters attack you

your fighters are not targeting fighters and will take much more damage than they give to the fighters - while you continue to shoot down the bombers

hint - target the fighters to preserve your own fighters

its an aspect of forced micromanagement

whenever your fighters say they are under attack - respond instantly and decide if they need to select a more critical target

What exactly is happening when you have two fighters squadrons Dogfighting and one completely wipes out another? Sometimes they will trade kills  with each other but sometimes it is so one sided it often feels like a coin toss to engage enemy fighters.

Tier, upgrades, captain skills, and who attacked first all have an impact. Fighters reward aggression and favorable conditions. Don't just throw them at the enemy as you start inviting a lot more RNG.
