So yeah I'm new, not open beta new but still new, and just got my Furataka. Problem is she isn't exactly the prime example of a Japanese cruiser, so I'm asking for any tips you guys have for playing her from stock to upgraded cause I don't remember her being this aweful.

Play it as a support sniper and clean up low health targets.

I find AP ammo works well with her, but citidel shots are so rng it hurts.

You can't brawl with other cruisers. They'll eat you up with their RoF. That said, you have good alpha damage. You're guns are accurate and amazing if you add the accuracy mod. Use your bigger guns and AP ammo to citadel Aobas, Omahas, and Phoenix all day long. I had 14 citadel hits with it the other night in one round. Wish I had screen shotted it.

The Furutaka is a cruiser and destroyer killer. She can kill BB's as well but requires using HE which are not great on the 203's. But the AP rounds are great for hitting cruisers and light armored battleships. I had a fun time in mine once fully upgraded, but stock it can be a pain as it has a slow ROF.

I feel your pain brother. I have been doing anything I can to get out of that ship. I have no idea why its in the Japanese cruiser line up. I have named it the Fu*ktaco and she has made me rage quit more than once. First time I have done that in my 5 month naval career. I think the largest problem is that you go from the super fun and maneuverable Kuma to this steaming pile.

Here is what I have learned to make the experience tolerable.

1. Breathe! You can use the convert experience from your other elite ships to get out of this pig as fast as possible.

2. Your guns are huge for a cruiser. As such I fire AP shells at everything.

3. Aim for the ships citadels. I believe that they are generally in the middle of the ship. I did a 15,000 point citadel shot on another cruiser last night.

4. Your ship is fast but for the love of god don't use full speed! Let me explain. You do not want to be anywhere except in a pack of your allies. Stay with the group and only use your speed to get back into that group.

5. The Fu*ktaco turns ok. But it turns way faster than your guns. If a destroyer is approaching you are S.O.L. as it can bob and weave so fast you can't shoot back.

6. Blast everything from long range. If you do not the faster ships will simply out turn your guns and you will die. Horribly.

7. You have two torpedoes mounted on the side of your ship. They are not a primary armament. As such use those only as defense and area denial weapons.

8. The Fu*ktaco is a P.O.S. She is less of a P.O.S with upgrades. I know it will keep you in her longer by spending the XP on upgrades but they are worth it.

9. You have a 20 second reload time. Don't Fu*king miss or you are dead. Wait for the perfect shot and take it. Maneuver while you are reloading then set up and fire again.

10. Oh ya. You are in a fast battleship. I know it doesn't say that anywhere but that is what she is. I know you chose cruisers specifically because you HATE battleships. Tough, the devs slipped a battleship in the cruiser line just to fu*k with you.

I hear the next cruiser is worth the grind. I don't know. This ship is worse than a drive by colonoscopy, with sand.

The furutaka does get better when fully upgraded and when you do learn how to play it you can be the bane of enemy cruisers thanks to it's large caliber guns for a cruiser. Just make sure you use AP and aim for citadels, they are usually right in the middle of a ship right at the water line. And if it is any consolation the next cruiser in the line, the Aoba, is a VERY good cruiser.

If you haven't, play some battleships and learn how to have your guns facing the right way. About 90% of playing the Furutaka is having your guns ready to fire in the right place. Fire AP especially at other cruisers and you can wreck them with citadels.

I have learned to like the Furutaka. I'm grinding it right now (for the third time). I'll put up replay videos as I make them. But with smart play it's as capable as most IJN Criusers around it's tier. Definitely don't want to overextend or overengage in it.
