The German tech tree -- and ships

Since my computer usually has a seizure when I try to load the "What we know about ships" thread because of all the pictures, I figured I would post here and annoy all you forum veterans.

Have WG team members said anything about the German tech tree, officially, here on the forum? i.e. when they may introduce a German premium, thereby unlocking the Kriegsmarine tech tree in-game; or the actual list of ships to feature on the tech tree; or any rough date for when they are implementing it all in-game via update?

Again, sorry if this stuff has been addressed recently as that thread might as well crash my computer (it's crashed my browser several times before) but my heart has been burning with these questions for quite a while.

If you are having a hard time loading all the comments on threads then change it so the post doesn't show all the comments on one page. You can do that by going to My Settings, Forums and Number of posts to show for each topic page and set the amount you want per page. Anyways pretty sure nothing has been said yet but rumors say August we might see Bismarck.

One thing I think will be experienced by many once the German tree comes out, is that many IJN DD players will rejoice in that they no longer have the weakest main armament popguns in the game.  German DD doctrine treated them as big torpedo boats for the most part so main guns were mostly 88mm max, a couple of the larger DDs might have had 105mm guns.  However, these were in WWII mainly meant for AA defense, so between those and the multiple quad 30mm flak gun mounts, German DDs might have the best AA in the game for DDs at higher tiers.  Low tiers will be glorified WWI torp boats fast and evasive little bastards.

What about the Type 1934, Type 1936, etc. classes? They had proper 5-inch armaments.

EDIT: Unless you're talking about WWI German destroyers/torpedo boats... in which case you're probably right.

Being new to the old geezer game, i'm drawing on my old ship model building experience as to what I remember the German navy was like.   One of the larger DD models you could find was of the Z class and that one had 2x2 105mm turrets.  Those were the same turrets used for AA on the German BBs and even Graf Spee had 3 of those mounts for AA protection.  There were also 2x4 30mm AA mounts, (those were a pain to glue together) and I seem to remember either 1 or 2 88mm single AA mounts.

Maybe you're thinking of the 1938-class? From what I can find they had two double-barrel gun mounts of smaller caliber.

The 1934- and 1936-classes, despite their faults, were much closer in line with the mid/late tier American (and presumably British) destroyers (Farragut, Somers, Sims-classes, etc.).

That must be it... some wiki fu ended confirming you right on that.  In fact the 1936s had 150mm for main guns.

One thing that almost all the German DDs carried in addition to torps though is that they packed about 60 mines a piece.  Now that would be an interesting and highly entertaining addition to gameplay.

Mines would be extremely fun, but just imagine all of the cry babies out there hating on torpedoes now having to cope with mines. I know one of my friends would straight up quit the game, the scrub.

"Torpedoes are OP!"

Yeah, be thankful we don't have submarines. With torpedoes.

Though if we were to get subs, mines would be the way to kill em. And hedgehogs. It would sure give cruisers something else to do.

I read somewhere earlier in this thread, that rumors say we might see the Bismark in August.

Haven't seen anything else about the Germans.

They would be great as area denial weapons with a limited life timer (can't have them drag out a match too much). You can detect them more or less but it will be far at a shorter range than incoming torpedo.

So if the mine would be considered in WoWS, it will be as an area denial tool rather than a real ship killer weapon.
