Shooting down planes should be more rewarding

At this point in the beta, shooting down planes doesn't seem to give you much xp or money. I think this hurts gameplay for several reasons:

-Ships have a harder time shooting down planes than fighters. But even being in the right place at the right time isn't enough of an incentive.

-Carriers often have fighter heavy loadouts that will suffer xp wise even if they luck out and shoot down a ton of planes. It isn't as worthwhile to do this vs sinking ships, which is too bad. They should be equally viable.

What ought to happen is giving rewards for spring down planes, with bonuses for:

Planes of a higher tier than your ship, planes that still have ammo left, bombers shot down during an attack run, and shooting down a certain % of all the enemy planes.

Then there would be more incentive to actively shoot down planes. A cruiser escorting a carrier under frequent attack would be rewarded better and not suffer a lack of opportunities to damage surface targets.

That would defiantly increase the incentive to protect your friendly ships from enemy fire.

They really should award ships, other than carriers, Clear Skies when they kill 30 planes

Yes on all points. Shooting down planes should be more rewarding than it currently is. and shooting down bombers while they are making an attack run should be a nice bonus. As well as finishing off a squadron before it can return to the enemy CV.

I figure it's fair to give more of a bonus toward killing planes with AA, since it's always going to be more situational. It would also help balance carriers in battles, since their planes are potentially feeding the enemy if used poorly.

I fully agree with that, as a matter of fact the whole point system needs a revamp which will probably not happen as WGming likes to keep it's cards close to their chest and not reveal all it's parameters, +1 to you captain. :medal:

Agreed. Low Tier US CVs need more incentive to perform their intended duty, which is air superiority. Too many U.S. CV running strike load outs simply because the XP is better.

Additional exp and credits for shooting down planes is needed for sure.  Right now, the only way for CVs to get decent exp and credits is damaging ships. I think the CV loadouts need to be changed back to the way they were. It's currently either too fighter heavy or too bomber heavy.

I put all the XP into my CV's planes, along with the Mod, to be an almost pure Fighter role.  After a few matches of winning with 300 and 400xp, I swapped it back to Stock and went Bombers.  Sorry.  Would love to run Fighters.

I agree with this. Running a fighter heavy CV should be equally rewarding to running a bomber heavy CV. Protecting your team from torpedo bombers is just as critical to victory as sending torpedo bombers after enemy ships.

The problem I see would be that if fighters were more rewarding than bombers then no one would run bombers and you could potentially just have 4 CVs in a match with all fighters and maybe 1 DB squadron apiece doing nothing to effect the outcome of a match.

That's true, but look at it this way: Carriers won't be as imbalanced vs other ships if they are dedicating more of their airwing towards fighters. Taking a strike carrier would be a lot more risky since you might be up against a fighter carrier.

Yes, you should get more XP/credits for shooting down planes.  The amount now is way too low...

I would say as a Cruiser man I would be more incentivized to look for planes to shoot if I was rewarded more exp for it

Agreed. I love playing the air superiority role but I will just slow my grind going that route. I love getting matched with a IJN strike loaded CV I can fly cap and he can spam torps unmolested.

Iunno, maybe if WG had implemented Manual AA fire I can agree with it. But AAW in this game is just the AI putting in the work, not sure how much XP should be reasonably awarded for something the computer is doing for you. Same thing with secondary weapon range/accuracy.

I might be wrong but I think WG did put manual AA in the early days of Alpha but then removed it saying it would be too much for players to manage. I got into Alpha much later so I don't know if this was the case.

I'm pretty sure it's been suggested by other players that exp and credits should be rewarded when you shoot down planes while in range of allied ships and hopefully would encourage players to participate in AA defense. But even if it were implemented I doubt the average player would do so. It's the CVs that need exp and credit boost the most from aircraft kills.

i think CV players should get more XP for shooting down planes than other classes but still a increase in XP for shooting down planes across the board will go a long way towards promote teamwork as it stands now why defend a BB when i can earn loads of XP spamming HE shells.... and why take a fighter loadout into battle with a CV when i can earn loads of XP seal clubbing with torps

I was beating this drum at least 6 months ago. Sometime after Christmas I decided to give CFV a try and found I was totally lousy at manual aim and realized quickly that  Auto torp was worthless.

Sooooo........ I decided to become a superdefense carrier. All flighters and a forced bomber or two. This was before the rise of the IJN carriers.  I would routinely totally wreck the other carriers TB and DB, essentaily nulifying his offensive power.  Many times I had over 50 air kills, yet was always way down on the XP meter cause they counted for othing and on waht I cold get from the DB points.

Then again it isnt always about points or XP is it?

They do, you just have to have the planes die in a specific way.

It says how when you mouse over the badge in the profile section of the game.
