Now that we are starting over.. which line for which type of warship?

In CBT i was going down the American lines for destroyer and battleship and Japanese for Cruiser. Now that everything was wiped for OBT, whats everyones thoughts on which nation has the better destroyers, cruisers, and battleships?. (not really interested in carriers).  I got up to tier 7 and was wondering what nation has the better tier 8 and up warships to start my grind toward.

American BBs are slow, ponderous beasts below tier seven or eight, but then they become WAY faster and more maneuverable.

I'll be going down the American DD line.  Got to the Fletcher in CBT before the wipe, and fell in love with the Mahan, Benson, and Fletcher.  Looking forward to the Gearing as well.
