Match was just starting i was in my Iowa, i set a waypoint out to the side and let the autopilot take me out with a hard right turn. Then a teammate in a DD trys to squeak past and we get hung up good.This was followed up with calls of bing ***t driver and various insults about my mother. I contend that right of way pecking order should be based on maneuverability. Battleship > Cruiser > destroyer

So whats your opinion?

Everyone is at fault, though the dd is more maneuverable and probably should have turned

It amazes me the lack of common sense..."right-of-way"  The ship on the right has "right-of-way"

(below is the "non common sense" description)

ref:USCG Navigation Rules ..Part B, Sec.II, Rule 15

But as always.....It's my fault dang it!

theres no cure for stupid people just live with it man if they dont have brains to slow down or drive around back ur ship just let them get hit not like a BB can stop on a dime he probable was looking half way cross the map instead watching for ships near him which is some thing most players forget to do and just ram others and complain nothing can really do just iggnor them and drive on

most time when i get hung up on player ill try and stop or they will sink me on the spot and get rest team hating them

From my point of view, Battleships should always have the right of way due to their large size. if an DD or CA drive in front me without warning, then he is at fault. Not like i can turn my ship on the nick of a dime...............

12. Sailing vessels
Two sailing vessels approaching one another must give-way as follows:
  • Port gives way to starboard. When each has the wind on a different side, the vessel which has the wind to port must give way;
  • Windward gives way to leeward. When both have the wind on the same side, the vessel which is windward must give way to the vessel which is leeward;
  • Unsure port gives way. If a vessel, with the wind on the port side, sees a vessel to windward and cannot determine whether the other vessel has the wind on the port or the starboard side, they must give way.
13. Overtaking
An overtaking vessel must keep out of the way of the vessel being overtaken. "Overtaking" means approaching another vessel at more than 22.5 degrees abaft[10] her beam, i.e., so that at night, the overtaking vessel would see only the stern light and neither of the sidelights of the vessel being overtaken.[6]
14. Head-on situations
When two power-driven vessels are meeting head-on both must alter course to starboard so that they pass on the port side of the other. "Head-on" means seeing the other vessel ahead or nearly ahead so that by night her masthead lights are actually or nearly lined up and/or seeing both her sidelights, or by day seeing a similar aspect of her.[6] "If you see three lights ahead, starboard wheel and show your red."
15. Crossing situations
When two power-driven vessels are crossing, the vessel which has the other on the starboard side must give way and avoid crossing ahead of her.[6] The saying is "If to starboard red appear, 'tis your duty to keep clear".[11] "...Act as judgement says is proper: port or starboard, back or stop her."
16. The give-way vessel
The give-way vessel must take early and substantial action to keep well clear.[6]
17. The stand-on vessel
The stand-on vessel shall maintain her course and speed, but she may take action to avoid collision if it becomes clear that the give-way vessel is not taking appropriate action, or when so close that collision can no longer be avoided by the actions of the give-way vessel alone. In a crossing situation, the stand-on vessel should avoid turning to port even if the give-way vessel is not taking appropriate action. These options for the stand-on vessel do not relieve the give-way vessel of her obligations under the rules.[6

I was always told,  Give way to the vessel that has less to loose,  If they are larger,give way,  If you are in a DD and cut off a CV you will sink and he will have a scratch,

Two sailing vessels approaching one another must give-way as follows:

  • Windward gives way to leeward. When both have the wind on the same side, the vessel which is windward must give way to the vessel which is leeward;

Rule 12 does not apply.   These are not sailing vessels, but power driven vessels.

This. " Rule of Gross Tonnage".    Smaller vessel avoids.

yes this not an actual rule, but common sense.

While driving a CG for the Navy, we would often (almost always....) change course to avoid the  large stupid merchant ships. Or the large stupid CV maneuvering for winds.  We could usually tell whether a black shoe or brown shoe had the deck of the CV, by how often they warned us of course changes.

I do wish we had a slight farther back view point than the game gives us right now.  I don't need to be higher, just farther back from the ship so I can get a better view of ships that are close.

ACTUAL transcript of a US naval ship with Canadian authorities off the coast of Newfoundland in October, 1995. This radio conversation was released by the Chief of Naval Operations on 10-10-95.

Americans: "Please divert your course 15 degrees to the North to avoid a collision."

Canadians: "Recommend you divert YOUR course 15 degrees to the South to avoid a collision."

Americans: "This is the captain of a US Navy ship. I say again, divert YOUR course."

Canadians: "No, I say again, you divert YOUR course."

Americans: "THIS IS THE AIRCRAFT CARRIER USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN, THE SECOND LARGEST SHIP IN THE UNITED STATES' ATLANTIC FLEET. WE ARE ACCOMPANIED BY THREE DESTROYERS, THREE CRUISERS AND NUMEROUS SUPPORT VESSELS. I DEMAND THAT YOU CHANGE YOUR COURSE 15 DEGREES NORTH. THAT'S ONE-FIVE DEGREES NORTH, OR COUNTER MEASURES WILL BE UNDERTAKEN TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF THIS SHIP."

Canadians: "This is a lighthouse. Your call."

Yes, I know it is a joke.

Lot of folks here are assuming that battleships are less manoeuvrable than cruisers. This is not a valid assumption.

Frankly, the larger USN cruisers are some of the least manoeuvrable ships I've played. They're faster and can get back up to speed sooner too, but they don't turn nearly as sharply as USN battleships.

Agreed. Same thing I do in tanks, let the heavies go first because they are the slowest, most armored, most damage. Small quick stuff should lookout because they have the most control but yeah, good luck finding someone that will do it.
