Does flooding really do anything ? Has anyone ever sunk by flooding ? Does it cause you to list ? Can you have multiple flooding effects .?

Fire scares me I have modified most of my build to reduce the chance of fire but flooding I don't even think about.

Whilst I'm sure I read somewhere that shells can cause flooding if hitting on the water line I've only ever experienced it from torpedo strikes.  Given the infrequent nature of those I have always had damage control ready to fix it on the press of a button.

on a different note I'd like to see damage controlled changed.  Rather than the 2 minute countdowns me instant fix.  have it reset every 15 seconds.   However it can only fix one item at a time and takes 15 seconds to fix it.   You have 3 active fires you can fix on every 15 seconds.

It would auto priorities at engines and steering first (if your not moving your dead) then address fire flooding and then other secondary systems.

This more reflects multiple damage control crews gets rid of the instant fix syndrome and make damage more noticable...

it does quite a bit of damage, and slows you down... additionally:

torpedo-caused flooding is the quickest way to turn water into whine

I do remember hitting an enemy ship with torpedoes right after I caused them to use their repair on fire.

...

They died a slow painful sinking.

Shells do not cause flooding, it's only been suggested that they should. Flooding is only caused by torpedoes (and ramming). You already identified why you tend not to notice it--you usually have a repair kit ready.

As for the damage control change--you overestimate how frequently anything NOT fire occurs. Changing the DC to work faster just to deal with fires makes all the other statuses and effects pointless.

Funnily enough in DD and Cruisers I lose steering or engines at lot. Don't recall losing them often in BB but then only 10% of my games have been in BB to date. I don't think the change would Nerf fire too much. It not uncommon to have two or three fire burning at once on a ship. You just have to make sure you reset interval not to fast. Plus in the model I'm proposing it takes 15 sec to disable one effect during which time it still active. No more magic wand instant fix ...

Sounds like ive been lucky with flooding then. Looking at my. Stats I have a reasonable number of torp kills but can't see a single kill due to flooding 8)
