Sold all my BBs

So, I finally had enough tonight. Once again, my BB lineup disintegrates pitifully when engaging in combat, and are nothing but helpless targets in the game. I held on up until 3.1 with the promise that armour would be fixed -- it wasn't fixed. Yes, turrets don't blow up as often now, but the real problems with BBs (fragility and low firepower) were not addressed at all. Instead HE mechanics have gone insane. I took out the South Carolina to see what American BBs had....it was the most laughably pathetic heap of trash ever to sail. It was so bad it was embarrassing.

I realize that WG has a fundamentally different idea of what a BB should be. I want BBs to be the mighty armoured fist of great nations. WG wants BBs to be something for other players to torp and HE spam. WG is not interested in meeting my expectations in the middle ground either. Its clear to me that, even if they fix the HE mechanics, they will not fix the poor performance of BBs. The BB driver is, essentially, going to be the locker gimp of the game. But I don't want to be a gimp, I don't want to be preyed upon, I want to go into battle sink stuff.

So I sold all of my BBs, even my Yamato, and then went back to the US tree and bought half the cruisers, as I had already ground up to Tier IX. I'm just going to say goodbye to BBs until WG improves them dramatically.

I feel as though I'm about to sell my DDs because I can't seem to do well in them.

You're in the wrong war. You should know this by now. Hell you should have known this since 6th grade.

Are you not pointing your ship directly at the enemy or at least near directly? That's the only way to actually use your armor to its fullest potential. If you're showing your broadside to them, your armor might as well be paper. Also, gunlion hinted earlier that changes to HE/AP mechanics are currently being tested.

I don't have a DD, so my missions are all torpedo missions and just sit there. Rats.

Freaking BBs turn towards me as soon as I come from...Just about anywhere...I hate it...Just focus on the freaking Cruiser.

Yeah I've thought about getting a low tier US DD to make them cycle. It's on my list of things to do but as of now, I need about every penny to save for the Montana :P

I own the US BBs all the way from tier 3 to tier 9 and… that's it since I sold my Penascola for funds. I had the research necessary for the next tier, so pretty safe there, just need to pinch some credits sometime.

The OP would have a heart attack if they saw my harbor though.

Tier 3 US BB sucks.  Suggestion was made to free exp to the Wyoming and while I'm not a big BB guy, I appreciated the advice a lot.

As a Des Moines owner, i can tell you that yes, HE damage is heavy, but it still takes a long time for a Super cruiser to bring down a Yamato with HE and Fires. Unless the Yamato is distracted and or bad at aiming, she will pay about half her hps for sinking me. IF She is distracted, meaning fighting another ship, then yes, she will go down easy, but any ship that is ganked by several ships of similar level will be in trouble. (Assuming everybody knows how to aim)

I had the Fletcher, After 20 battles and only 6 wins with 8 kills I gave up on it. I seemed to have a way better time with the Benson then I had with it. The only DD I am keeping is the Clemson.

I have a Mutsuki....After ~30 games of hardly any torp hits and kills in general...I still try. I do say i had much more fun in my Minekaze.

The only DDs I'll ever keep will be the Nicholas...Until it gets nerfed that is. That and the Fletcher, Shimakaze, and probably the Gearing

Making a judgment on the US BB line at South Carolina is the equivalent of me saying the IJN BBs are crapbecause of how terrible the Kawachi is..

I can't even get a win in my Cleveland Heavy Cruiser and I love that Ship it's either I get Torpped or I do between 25,000 to 45,000 dmg with 126 to 145 shots done an 3 to 4 kills and still end up with a Draw or a Lost :(

My real problem with Destroyers is the smoke. I use it and watch my already low frame rates bottom out. I normaly run around 15 to 18 fps and hit the smoke and it gets down around 11 or so. I start to have problems tracking targets with the guns. That being said I rarely use smoke. I get away with it in the Clemson because its a small target. I play super aggressive with it and like the Johnston did in Taffy 3 I chase shell splashes. also its slim profile makes it a very hard target to hit head on.

Turns out I didn't mount the 10 KM torps when I could've...Just had monster game with my Mutsuki. Killed another Mutsuki and a tier 8 Japanese DD...Always forget its name...Uhhh...

Fubuki! Yes, I killed a Fubuki at close range, and a Mutsuki.

Apparently I'm a good knife-fighter.

I have a GTX 970 so I don't suffer at all when smoke comes around...It's my ping. I swear the game's still not optimized and I get terrible ping and lots of packet loss.

Thats where I do better I am running around 70 to 90 on ping. I dont know but I live out in the middle of nowhere so I really dont understand the ping differance. The FPS is I have a 4 year old computer.

To the OP I dont see where your problems with BBs are. Looking at your stats you are getting the damage in and making great XP with them. I thought I was getting good XP yours is way better then mine. I gave up on the Japanese line and went the American line. The New Mexico is a great ship and can dish out the damage. American BBs are brawlers and do great at closer ranges. I just took on an Amagi who made the mistake of shooting HE at me. I tore him up and a Nagato at the same time. Sunk the Amagi with some good Citadel hits and got several good Citadel hits on the Nagato when a New Orleans finished him off before he could get his last broadside on me.

So after a day of CA driving, I can say that so far selling off the BBs was the right move. I am getting in way more hits, sinking things again, and getting citadels. In one game I landed 4 citadels in 8 shots. I can actually duck into frontline and make it out again intact. I can dodge torps and the CVs tend to leave me alone.

why would anyone sell ships, out of frustration, in a testing environment?

Hilariously today they patched fire reduction and better AP performance against bouncing, as well as slowed down aircraft under attack.

You might have sold those BBs a bit too soon.
