So they have done it again, gone cheap.  According to the Anniversary Dev Blog, rewards for snowflakes this year will NOT be coal and steel as we have all come to love and expect.  Now we are going to get crappy economic bonuses.

Thanks for ruining another anniversary!

Tracked down the coat of arms on the Dutch flag which was teased but not mentioned in the notes. It is the coat-of-arms for HNLMS Tromp, a destroyer leader.

I would guess that this is the "new ship" that's gonna be teased in tomorrow's Discord announcement.

In Update 0.11.8, there will no longer be an operation of the week. When playing with a matchmaker-selected team, the Operation scenario itself will be randomly selected. It will, however, still be possible to independently choose which scenario you play when entering as part of a division.

Well then, RIP pick up groups for Operations.  Why would I want to play Ops in a such a way when I could be forced to play undesirable Scenarios like Naval Station Newport or Ultimate Frontier?

Reload mechanics changes are a bit on the convoluted side, and at first glance I'm not sure they are better overall than what is currently in game.

With regards to the new style of econ bonus crates, I'm fully expecting the ones containing blue and red boosts to be rarer than hen's teeth.  Can't have those actual good bonuses being available in large numbers for free, won't make as much money from XMas crates, Maximum Firepower crates or premium collection crates then, eh?

Battleship Armory mini-game admittedly looks interesting.  Halfway wondering if the AI will be rigged though.

With over 52,000 battles to your account, you've been here long enough to know that coal and steel are the Christmas rewards, not the anniversary ones.

The problem with matchmaker randomly selecting  Ops is some Operations won't except certain ships and despite higher bonuses I think most players will opt for top tier ships

Apparently the ability to earn upto 5 "rewards" per ship balances out the coal/steel no longer being the reward.

I'd rather have one-time rewards per ship, and it being coal or steel, than eco-bonuses I don't actually want.

Gun Feeder buffed(?) Once I see how this works on PTS it should make far more sense,

Ops are back, awesome. However, I fear everyone will just bring their T8s and basically make T6 useless (would make Newport better though). Plus, I really don't like the random Op. You could queue up in a ship that may be suited for one op (Canarias in Aegis, for ex.) but end up getting Killer Whale or God forbid Newport, where your lack of HE and torps causes problems. Its great to see them return, but couldn't they of just kept it op of the week and just opened up Cherry Blossom to all T8 cruisers?

Anniversary flakes, or a nice way to stock up on eco bonuses, and if you have a lot of ships and the sanity to do PvP,  a nice bonus

Coal and steel are Christmas, not anniversary.

snowflakes and anniversary are different, like last year i think Anniversary was tokens for T5-7 that you could trade in for perma camoes for T7 ships, people made a huge deal about that just like youre doing, but come Snowflake time during the winter months, it was still Coal and Steel, so i wouldnt worry about it

Christmas was coal and steel and Santa containers for tier 10.  Anniversary was something else (and a buttload of anniversary camos), and Supercontainers for tier 10.

Not certain how I feel about the change in gun feeder.  And no word on the special commanders that have  a further reduction in gun feeder time.

Removing the operation of the week and forcing solo players to play random ops is a bad idea. As others have stated, certain ships are good for certain operations and terrible at others, and knowing what operation you are going into was something I always liked about them. In addition, this probably means that ship restrictions will be removed from Cherry Blossom and Hermes? One of the best things about Cherry Blossom was that it so closely paralleled the events of the Battle of Empress Augusta Bay. Now it’s just going to become another random PVE operation?

This announcement has pretty much killed all enthusiasm I had for the return of Cherry Blossom, Hermes, and Ultimate Frontier.

Great job WG, you’ve once again taken something good and by “improving” it made the experience worse. *slow clap*

Also, wth are the devs thinking making the mechanics of changing shell types/gun feeder so complicated? There are certain things in this game that should be more complicated, but this isn’t one of them. This looks like WG trying to desperately save face and fix Italian BBs by implementing some game-wide mechanic change that creates more problems than it solves. So, par for the course for this type of thing.

The mechanics of the “Battleship” mini game are also pretty player-unfriendly. You play the game to earn a currency, then play a mini game against the AI for another currency, and it is this currency you can exchange for prizes. Seriously?

0.11.8 is looking to be an absolute :etc_swear:show if these changes are applied.

Depending on the Tier of the ship, you will receive various rewards, including new containers with economic bonuses:

  • for Tier VIII-IX ships – 1 "Special bonuses" container and 1 "Rare bonuses" container;
  • for Tier X ships and superships - 1 "Supercontainer".

Specials are the Green bonuses and Rares are the Blue ones.

Supercontainers: image.thumb.png.07beaca46d23806ba5b300613bdc41ec.png

Gift: what they're basically saying is that if you have enough ships in port, and earn enough XP on one of them, you can choose to blow a certain number of snowflakes off other ships without having to play them. This is meant to speed blowing off the snowflakes for those who have hundreds of ships in their port.

Tier 10 and superships were supercontainers.  Gifts were (I think) either special bonus containers (tier 2 bonus), or rare bonus containers (tier 3 bonus).  They weren't really clear on the word gift.

And I was wrong about the Supercontainers

oh and Brawls:

Jutland with T8 (Hello Tirpitz, this patch is your time in the spotlight)

T8 cruisers: This looks like a high chance that this will become a game of "What has [edited] armor, high DPM, or a bucketload of torps?" So Congress, Mainz, Balti, and maybe Harbin (if radar, AP, and hydro doesn't exist)

T8 DDs: a bloodbath between French and duckbotes, with a helping of Kidds and Cossacks.

CVs: well if they put every CV player in this and remove them from the other game modes, it's a win -win. Real players get fun matches, we see CV defenders cry. Oh and the date of this brawl is quite something.

under the Bonus chart, it shows T10s and superships have them.

Yeah, was typical WG clarity, but I think they are the bonus containers.

It would be better if the team got to vote on the Scenario vs. making it random, IMO

In this context the bonus gifts are the right to knock a snowflake off one or more of your ships (and receive the associated stuff) without having played it (by doing sufficiently well in a ship you DID play).

An interesting idea, but what if you load up with six people who actually WANT to play Newport and you are screaming "EFF NO!!!" ?

RIP ops of the week, you will be missed. I think two ops of the week is a better option than this, and player can choose the queue  which operation they want to play.

I probably will keep my hands off the ops  as least I am somewhat prepared.
